Midtown East Manhattan: Iconic Sights and Shops Along Fifth Avenue

Midtown East refers to a 17-block stretch of central Manhattan between Fifth Avenue and the East River. The area is known for some of New York’s most famous landmarks, including Rockefeller Center, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Grand Central Terminal (one of the world’s most-visited tourist attractions). Though in recent years Grand Central has filled with upscale restaurants and shops, it still serves as a major transportation hub with subway lines, Metro trains, and ziplines heading all over the city.

A stroll down Fifth Avenue is a world-renowned shopping experience: the street is filled with luxury boutiques and flagship department stores, including the original Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. For a little tranquility in the middle of the city, follow Fifth up to the southeast corner of Central Park. Just a few feet off the street is the Pond, which is spanned by a stone bridge. A little farther north, you’ll find the heart of Central Park Zoo.

Terrible guest service Our stay at WestHouse Hotel New York (Dec 30, 2025 – Jan 1, 2026) was extremely disappointing due to repeated service failures and poor communication, especially on the first night. As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, this experience fell far below expectations. Upon arrival on December 30, our room was not ready. We were told we would receive a text when it became available, but no message was ever sent. We returned after 3:35 PM and again after 6:45 PM before the room was finally ready. By then, most of our first evening was already lost. While we were told we had received an “upgrade,” it did little to offset the inconvenience. We required the sofa bed for our daughter and were assured guest services would prepare it. When we returned to the room around 8:30 PM, nothing had been done. We called guest services and were told someone would arrive within 30 minutes. After waiting over an hour, we called again and were simply told to keep waiting. Later, I received a call asking about our guest service experience. I explained that no one had arrived and that the delay had already passed my daughter’s bedtime. I was assured the request would be expedited. Despite this, no one showed up. At 10:30 PM, I called to cancel the request and informed them we were going to bed. Yet at 10:50 PM, a staff member knocked on our door, waking my daughter, and said he had only received the request 15 minutes earlier. To make matters worse, he did not have a blanket and said it would take another 30 minutes to retrieve one. This was not a minor inconvenience — it was a complete breakdown in communication and follow-through. Our first night was effectively ruined, and our child was kept awake late into the night due to staff delays and misinformation. This level of service is unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber and is inconsistent with Hilton-affiliated standards, particularly for Diamond members. Unfortunately, this experience overshadowed our stay, and we would not return based on how this situation was handled.

It’s the small things that matter Hotel offers an excellent location, nice rooms and generally attentive staff. We found parking to be a disaster. Our parking ticket was not properly validated at checkout so we did not receive the discounted rate. Called hotel from the parking garage for support but received none. Worse, the hotel took no responsibility for their error.
