Midtown East Manhattan: Iconic Sights and Shops Along Fifth Avenue

Midtown East refers to a 17-block stretch of central Manhattan between Fifth Avenue and the East River. The area is known for some of New York’s most famous landmarks, including Rockefeller Center, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Grand Central Terminal (one of the world’s most-visited tourist attractions). Though in recent years Grand Central has filled with upscale restaurants and shops, it still serves as a major transportation hub with subway lines, Metro trains, and ziplines heading all over the city.

A stroll down Fifth Avenue is a world-renowned shopping experience: the street is filled with luxury boutiques and flagship department stores, including the original Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. For a little tranquility in the middle of the city, follow Fifth up to the southeast corner of Central Park. Just a few feet off the street is the Pond, which is spanned by a stone bridge. A little farther north, you’ll find the heart of Central Park Zoo.

Not even 4 stars. Stayed at the WestHouse for thr NYC half marathon. I was running, my roommate was not. This room was classified as a 5 star hotel on hotel engine and it was so far from that. The heat was permanently on and when we called to have it changed they told us that it was set seasonally but they’d bring us a fan. The fan was covered in dust. I think as up all night before my race listening to this loud oscillating fan and an a/c fan that was worthless. In the morning when I got up to go head to the race there were 4 large silverfish bugs scurrying around our bathroom. I will never stay at this hotel again.

Great location We loved staying at Westhouse. Great location. Sonya was an excellent hostess for cocktail hour! We did get hot in our room and were unable to properly regulate temperature.

Above and beyond! Just returned from a girls trip weekend stay at the WestHouse Hotel New York in the heart of the City. Such a wonderful hotel, great location and amazing amenities. Unfortunately, on my first night I came down with food poisoning from a restaurant outside the hotel. While it certainly wasn’t the start to the trip I had hoped for, the kindness and attentiveness of the hotel staff truly stood out. The housekeeping team became aware that I was sick and thoughtfully brought me seltzer water with freshly squeezed lemon without me even asking. It was such a simple gesture, but it meant a lot to me in that moment. The following evening, my friend and I stopped by the Terrace for the hotel’s complimentary food and beverage offerings. The staff there were welcoming and attentive, but Sonia in particular went above and beyond. She noticed that I wasn’t eating and gently asked if I was feeling okay. When I told her I had been sick, she showed such genuine kindness and concern. Sonia made sure I had what I needed and checked in on me in a way that felt incredibly thoughtful and sincere. When you’re not feeling well while traveling, being away from home can make it even harder. Sonia’s warmth and attentiveness made me feel especially cared for, and I’m very grateful for the compassion she showed. She is a wonderful reflection of the hospitality at WestHouse, and I hope the hotel knows what a special team member they have in her. I will definitely return in hopes of seeing her!
