Midtown East Manhattan: Iconic Sights and Shops Along Fifth Avenue

Midtown East refers to a 17-block stretch of central Manhattan between Fifth Avenue and the East River. The area is known for some of New York’s most famous landmarks, including Rockefeller Center, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Grand Central Terminal (one of the world’s most-visited tourist attractions). Though in recent years Grand Central has filled with upscale restaurants and shops, it still serves as a major transportation hub with subway lines, Metro trains, and ziplines heading all over the city.

A stroll down Fifth Avenue is a world-renowned shopping experience: the street is filled with luxury boutiques and flagship department stores, including the original Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. For a little tranquility in the middle of the city, follow Fifth up to the southeast corner of Central Park. Just a few feet off the street is the Pond, which is spanned by a stone bridge. A little farther north, you’ll find the heart of Central Park Zoo.

Awarded 4 stars due to its location. Service seriously patchy. Positives Very good value deal booked with British Airways Holiday Fabulous midtown location - ten mins from Times Square, Broadway and Central Park. Breakfast and buffet dinner included in residents tax (compulsory $50 per person per day). Negatives Seriously indifferent staff, especially on reception. Simply didn’t care about issues with rooms (one family split over different floors). Problems eventually sorted them but with reluctance. Poor housekeeping. Dirty cotton bud under sink and wrapper under table when we arrived. Two days without cleaning - there were issues with staff and snow, but it would have been very easy to let residents know. Ran out of toilet paper and we had to ask for more. No kettle, no dressing gowns which you would expect from 5 star In summary, this is an excellent location but no where near five star. Will not be rushing back unless the truss change of management.

The only place I will stay in NYC I just retuned from another fabulous stay at the Westhouse. The friendly front desk staff welcomed me back to the hotel. From the moment we checked in our stay was seamless. Pagye, the manager goes above and beyond for her guests and her staff is among the happiest and friendliest I've come across. Looking forward to my next visit to NYC and the WestHouse hotel.

Not very accommodating or welcoming Incredibly disappointing experience. Due to flight delays from weather in the NE, my family missed our flight at JFK stayed here for a single night. We arrived weary and haggard at 2am (delays were so bad it was a challenge to even find a room in the area). Front desk clerk looked annoyed that we were even there. Three major disappointments for us: no rollaway bed available, no extra blankets available (what??), and no extra hour at checkout. As a Hilton Diamond member, I am actually pretty low maintenance and ask for very little because I’m just happy to be traveling. Considering we spent a total of 9 hours at this property, and spent $600 for a room, I think an extra hour to check out is not a big ask. The manager (barely out of school and younger than my kids) said brusquely that if she allowed us an extra hour, she would “have to give it to everyone”. Pardon me? I was incredibly turned off by the attitude and overall treatment here. Yes, the location is stellar and the breakfast buffet on the rooftop is lovely. But that doesn’t mean hotel guests should be treated as we were. Based on this, I can’t really recommend this property.
