Midtown East Manhattan: Iconic Sights and Shops Along Fifth Avenue

Midtown East refers to a 17-block stretch of central Manhattan between Fifth Avenue and the East River. The area is known for some of New York’s most famous landmarks, including Rockefeller Center, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Grand Central Terminal (one of the world’s most-visited tourist attractions). Though in recent years Grand Central has filled with upscale restaurants and shops, it still serves as a major transportation hub with subway lines, Metro trains, and ziplines heading all over the city.

A stroll down Fifth Avenue is a world-renowned shopping experience: the street is filled with luxury boutiques and flagship department stores, including the original Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. For a little tranquility in the middle of the city, follow Fifth up to the southeast corner of Central Park. Just a few feet off the street is the Pond, which is spanned by a stone bridge. A little farther north, you’ll find the heart of Central Park Zoo.

Subpar and Creepy Experience Not sure in what world this is a 4+ star hotel or a luxury experience… while the rooms were spacious and clean-ish, they were very very beat up. It was a subpar experience at best. The hotel had none of the amenities that a basic hotel would normally offer. No toiletries (think q tips, etc). No robes. We requested extra pillows and I was actually stunned at what we received. They were *maybe* half an inch thick. Looked like a hospital pillow. The worst part tho was our customer service experience. Inappropriate is the only way to describe it. We received multiple calls seeing if we had checked out the day before we were due to check out. And then, the worst part… at FOUR O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING (!!!!) we received a call from the front desk saying they were seeing if the room was vacant. Creepy, strange, inappropriate and frightening. My husband and I double checked the locks as we were fearful someone would enter the room. I am a young mother of 2 who rarely gets a good nights sleep and as I was on a get away with my husband that guarantee was ruined as I was woken up by the front desk at 4 am. Honestly so unacceptable. We will not be back and certainly think twice before booking here.

Great hotel. Great location. Great staff. Fantastic hotel in the centre of Manhattan. Brilliant location and fantastic staff who couldn’t do enough for us. Donna on reception was amazing and went over and above to get us a better room. The staff everywhere in the hotel were so friendly and helpful.
