Eagle River, Wisconsin: Fishing Holes and Waterfalls near Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

Eagle River is nearly 150 miles from the closest major city, but it feels worlds away. Here, rather than chains or department stores, you’ll find quaint shops stocked with both hand-dipped ice cream and bait for your next fishing trip. In fact, northern Wisconsin has one of the largest concentrations of lakes in the Midwest. The region’s chain of 28 lakes makes it a premier destination for muskie anglers and fly-fishers. Even if the fish aren’t biting, you can still get a taste of them: one of Wisconsin’s most famous traditions is the Friday-night fish fry.

Three generations loved this place! This resort has something for everyone: fishing, boating, beach w/raft, indoor pools, trails, tennis, pickle ball, playground, ice cream, quiet, unbelievable scenery, deer in the yard each morning, on the Eagle River chain, close to Eagle River restaurants....and so much more!

Fun place for a large gathering A great place for a family reunion. We had 30 family members. The accommodations worked out great. The beach was very nice. Used the court for pickle ball. Had a volleyball tournament. Had a bonfire. Restaurants were conveniently located

Issues and more issues We have stayed at Wild Eagle Lodge every July for the past 19 years. Usually it is a very enjoyable experience. I don't know why the wheels seemed to come off this year, but there were issues. We had ants in the kitchen area and the floor was quite dirty. The central A/C did not work so there were portable units in place, which were loud, but otherwise fine. We needed heat one morning, but the furnace did not work. We lost our reserved boat slip to a condo owner who took it over while we were out for the day and then refused to move their boat. They removed our mooring lines and our reserved sign was ignored. We were forced to prematurely take our boat out to the water. Being able to dock our boat is the single biggest reason we stay at Wild Eagle Lodge. We're going to try again next July and hope things are much better.
