Lodi, California: Zinfandel Capital of the World

Grapes have been growing in Lodi—located south of Sacramento and east of the Bay Area—for quite a while. As far back as the 1850s, observers were noting the wild grapes that popped up along the Calaveras River, earning it the nickname “Wine Creek.” Grape growing has become a little more organized since then. Today, Lodi is an American Viticultural Area encompassing half a million acres and some 70 wineries.

The region is best known for its old-vine zinfandels—in fact, it’s been called the “Zinfandel Capital of the World.” Since Lodi is smaller than Napa and less well known, visitors can create memorable wine-country experiences with lower prices and more tasting-room attention than they’d find upstate.

We were in a king room this stay. Due to the virus and the care the hotel made to distance others made our stay much more comfortable. It was wonderful that they remained opened during this difficult time.

This place is beautiful. We loved our room. The only thing we weren’t happy about was that the spa pool was totally cold when we went to use it. Bummer. Otherwise, great place. We will stay again.

Pleasant surprise My son was just married at Viaggio Winery. We arranged for family & friends to stay at Wine & Roses and I was pleasantly surprised. Nice spacious room, great quality food, and friendly staff. The property offers a wine walk and has a big pool area

Outstanding stay- would definitely return. Outstanding stay I don’t understand why people are so cruel and mean in the reviews. Honestly this was an exceptional stay. The rooms are well appointed the fronts day off is so helpful and Accommodating. Very Long travel day from Washington DC and a traffic induced drive from San Francisco made for a long day. It was like a breath of fresh air pulling into this beautiful space. The meal at the restaurant was one of the best I’ve had in ages as well. Wish we were staying here more than one day but would love to return in the future. Fantastic room with Aveda products too. And a nice robe-Always a plus !!

Unprofessional You wrote a review for Wine & Roses 5 minutes ago 1.0 star rating5/27/2021 I do a lot of business in the Lodi area and have stayed at W&R multiple times for 4-6 week periods. I typically have always had a great experience and enjoyed my time at the property, but during my most recent visit I was shocked to hear that the Rooms Division Director tripled the nightly rate without any heads-up. I found it to be a very unprofessional tactic considering it was during the most busiest time of the work week and I had to relocate to another property. If you're a hardworking young professional like myself, and are in Lodi frequently for work, I'd suggest to look at other accommodation options in the area as predetermined nightly rates will most likely change drastically without notice or consideration for the end customer.
