Hotel at a Glance: Woodstock Inn Station & Brewery

Once upon a time (1982), the Woodstock Inn Station & Brewery was just a 100-year-old deserted house on North Woodstock’s Main Street. The property was sold to owners who planned to make it a small inn with four guest rooms. Fast-forward 30 years, and the Woodstock Inn Station & Brewery is like a mini-neighborhood set in the White Mountains, comprising five adjacent buildings, including a brewery and a restaurant. Having recently undergone a $3 million renovation, the inn is a rustically upscale place for a mountain vacation, close to skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

  • Raise a pint of house-brewed, award-winning beer at the Woodstock Inn Brewery, then take the included tour of the facility. You’ll also take home two pint glasses and a growler of beer. Tours are held daily at 12 p.m. (4 p.m. on Saturdays)
  • Fill up on hearty comfort food such as rib-eye steak, or enjoy breakfast for two (included with your stay).
  • Unique rooms are all decorated differently—some feature rustic-chic pine furnishings and quilts, and some have romantic floral decor.
  • Enjoy live music at Woodstock Station, a repurposed train station brought over from the nearby town of Lincoln. It hosts concerts and karaoke nights, as well as scheduled entertainment on weekend nights.

White Mountains, New Hampshire: Soaring Peaks Surrounded by Historical New England Towns

There are 48 peaks that rise more than 4,000 feet in the White Mountains National Forest, making them New England’s tallest mountains. The 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington is the tallest in the entire Northeast; from the top, you can get amazing views of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, and, on especially clear days, Canada. To get to the top, you can either attempt the challenging hike up or take a scenic drive along the Mount Washington Auto Road. For a less daunting climb, there’s Crawford Notch State Park, where you can hike the Mount Willard trail. It climbs 3.9 miles to a summit with gorgeous vistas. Some ski resorts also make their home in the park, including the popular Wildcat Mountain near Mount Washington.

A handful of small historical towns dot the surrounding lowlands, and they all serve as excellent gateways to rugged adventure in the national forest. Many became popular vacation spots during the railroad era, when Bostonians and New Yorkers flocked here to exchange stifling city streets for mountain air. North Woodstock is a good place for a quiet getaway—the town features a quaint Main Street lined with a few shops, bars, and breweries, and that’s about it.

“We don’t give wait times over the phone.” I was trying to find a parking space after a long day at Santa’s Village. All I wanted to know was an estimate on how long their wait was at 4:30pm, since it looked very busy. If it wasn’t too long we would find parking on the street somewhere and walk. I was told twice, even though I was right outside the front door, that they don’t give time estimates over the phone because they change too quickly. I get that the restaurants are short staffed and are slammed because many others are closed a couple of days over the week. We have been very patient whenever we have been out to eat this past year, but I was a returning customer who won’t be back.

Excellent experience The staff was friendly. Prior to arriving our initial room was under construction, they changed rooms (an actual upgrade) and offered a discount. Breakfast was included and the staff accommodated for our large family and the options were outstanding. Great time relaxing in the swimming area across the street from the main building. Highly recommended for couples and families

THE WOODSTOCK INN / DOG FRIENDLY I am always impressed by restaurants that are dog friendly. I have visited many restaurants that are. I was highly disappointed that the restaurant relegates folks with dogs to sit in a “dog section” which is located on the side of the building on the street with a fence behind you. At the time we were there the area was very very hot. The umbrella was two small and did not tip to provide any relief from the sun. Our beer was warm in minutes and the ice water became lukewarm as well. When i went to visit the restroom, the outdoor bar area was at least 20 degrees cooler. I have never been to a restaurant that has been dog friendly to treat you like second class citizens, with the hostess being very rude. I have sat at bars with my dog. Also, there were two tables set for 6 people that was in a shader stop, which we were told we could not sit at. The tables for 6 sat empty for the entire time we were there. I have visited the Woodstock restaurant many times. I am not sure I will go back, or recommend the restaurant. I hope that this review does not deter the restaurant from allowing dogs, I just think the restaurant could do much better.
