Gleneden Beach, Oregon: Small Community near Beachfront State Parks

Gleneden Beach is a very small resort town on the Oregon coast. “If not for the signs, you’d scarcely be able to find it,” Fodor’s writes. But despite the small scale, there’s still plenty to do here. Spas and golf fairways can be found at the town’s resort properties, and the surrounding forest preserve is good for a stroll. At Gleneden Beach State Recreation Site there’s a paved trail leading down from the pines to the beach—a soft-sand affair ideal for sunbathing and watching wetsuit-clad surfers catching waves.

Since it’s situated along a string of Pacific state parks, Gleneden Beach also has easy access to other coastal attractions; just 15 minutes away, Devil's Lake State Recreation Area is a good spot for boating and swimming. On either side of Gleneden Beach are two larger coastal cities, Newport and Lincoln City, both ideal spots for combing beaches, watching whales, and browsing in boutiques and bookstores.

A great disappointment We made our reservations a year ahead of time and called to confirm our reservations a couple months ago and asked for a view and they said that shouldn’t be any problem and when we got there, we got a basement room where the windows in the bedroom didn’t work and the other one couldn’t even see through. It was a great disappointment.

Great Spot. I'm here every two years. The resort is gearing up for a major remodel and it is time. While the rooms are immaculate it's time for new beds. They're coming. The staff are helpful and the pool and 2 hot tubs are used all times of the day. The game room is tidy with a pool table and ping pong and a few video games. You can also just go and watch tv or sit and chat by the fire. There is a pickleball court, basketball and tennis so plenty to keep you busy. Yesterday I watched a gray whale make his way south for about a half hour and was thoroughly entertained. Recent work to shore up the "cliff" looks stable and is now protected by a cable railing that doesn't interfere with watching the water from the hot tub. I read in a negative review that the sliding door was so old it didn't work. There are no sliding doors at this location so I think that review should be eliminated.

Nice place Stayed here overnight in order to eat at the Bay House and go glass blowing in Lincoln City. Clean, warm, comfortable, ocean view and could listen to the ocean. Great sleep, nice bed-- and, I'm not a good sleeper!

Room view gets worse every stay We live a couple hours away stayed here for the first time a couple of months ago in a 1 bedroom. Had a great view with a room near the ocean. stayed twice more in the last 2 months and the room view got worse each stay to where this time, no view of the Ocean. Very disappointing after 20+ years of ownership. Feels like they sucked us into staying here with the first visit and now, are showing us, we really are not a priority. Called this time, 3 times prior to coming, to let them know that we would appreciate a view because the only reason we were coming was to sit in a room and watch the Ocean. Cancelled a room at a motel that I had booked conccurrently that would have guaranteed an ocean view, because I was hoping Gleneden would provide us a unit with a view. Low and be hold they offered us two units, NEITHER with a view at all of the ocean. Great view of a wall of the building, a drainage gulley and a parking lot on the other side of the gulley. Next time I want a place with a view of the Ocean I will pay for a motel. Apparently indicating what my preference would be got me completely the opposite. Our first stay a couple of months ha ago, had a few things that weren’t up to par. Worst one is, right after an early dinner (5:30pm) we were fixing desert to sit and watch the waves out of the window. A maintenance person suddenly appeared right in front of our window and began cleaning it. No notification or warning. I can only imagine the reaction had their been someone changing clothes to go to dinner or, kids getting dressed, then having a man appear in the window. In addition, there was dryer lint in the sink, dead bugs and dirt under a chair, a light bulb in the bathroom and one in the bedroom were burned out, the heater in the main living area did not work, and the scissors had so much dried food on them we could not open them until they were soaked in water for a while. I emailed the general manager about all the issues and never heard a word back. Makes me feel like, as an owner, we are not appreciated nor important and Worldmark/Wyndam could careless about it’s members. Very disappointing. Steve Longtime Worldmark (Trendwest) owner.
