Indio, California: The City of Festivals in the Desert

Stagecoach Festival. Indio International Tamale Festival. Coachella. These are a just a few of the many events that come through Indio, lending credence to its title as "The City of Festivals." Coachella is probably the best known of these events, attracting more than 100,000 visitors over a two-weekend span that Rolling Stone has called one of the best American rock festivals. Music lovers flock to the desert to hear the latest and greatest in alternative rock and hip hop, as well as to take in large, sculptural art sprinkled across the grounds. This artistic vibe leaks out onto the streets of Indio in the form of Southwest-inspired wall murals.

Located about 20 miles from Indio, Palm Springs is an oasis of outdoor recreation and old Hollywood glamour. Once the stomping grounds of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and the Rat Pack, the town still attracts A-list vacationers today. A stroll through the Movie Colony—which had its heyday between the 1930s and 1960s—will take you past the former homes of Dean Martin, Bob Hope, and Marilyn Monroe.

The sun shines more than 300 days a year in Palm Springs, which means you can play a round of golf or hike in the nearby Agua Caliente Indian Canyons no matter the season. It’s worth taking a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, whose cars rotate 360 degrees as they carry passengers to Mount San Jacinto’s Mountain Station, located 8,516 feet above sea level. About 40 miles northeast is the nearly 800,000-acre Joshua Tree National Park, which spans parts of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. Hit one of the 12 nature trails for a chance to see desert bighorn sheep, snakes, and black-tailed jackrabbits.

3 Weeks in Paradise_ My 3 Weeks in Paradise _ My family of four and I had the absolute joy of spending three weeks at WorldMark by Wyndham in Indio, CA. Check-in was a breeze, and the ladies at the front desk were so kind and knowledgeable. A huge thank you to Zaira (super sweet!) for placing us in the best room—we loved our two-bedroom unit in Building 13! Big thanks also to Michael, Matilda, and Kathy for assisting Zaira and making us feel special. When we walked into our room, it felt like a dream come true—a spacious two-bedroom apartment perfect for our family. The front bedroom had twin beds and a large full bathroom. The living room had a queen-size Murphy bed (perfect if you have extra family visiting), and the master bedroom had a king bed with an en-suite full bathroom for us parents. The FULL kitchen had everything—glasses, dishes, all the utensils you could need—even grilling tools! And speaking of the grill, it was less than 10 steps away and backed up to a stunning lake full of wildlife. We also loved having access to washers and dryers right on site, complete with everything you need to do laundry. The staff was wonderful—always saying “Good morning!” with a smile. If I ever needed anything, the front desk was just a phone call or text away. Love that! They truly made it feel like a home away from home. Now let’s talk about the pools—OMG!!! Two ginormous pools, kiddie pools, splash pads, and the most relaxing lazy river—with lifeguards! There were also at least four jacuzzis, including one for adults only ❤️. By the time we left, we even knew some of the lifeguards by name—thank you, Samantha _! We loved grilling, roasting s’mores by the fire pits, and relaxing while the kids played on the playground nearby. One of our favorite experiences was visiting the on-site theatre—yes, a free theatre that plays movies for all ages! The kids had a blast in the arcade, and my youngest even wanted to try the gym _—she said it looked fun too! Honestly, I could go on and on. Wyndham, you really thought of everything! We will definitely be back—although next time, I might just change my address _ Thank you, Mark, Zaira, Samantha, and everyone who made our stay at WorldMark by Wyndham a 100 out of 10. ⭐️ Gold Star! ⭐️ P.S. The lake that runs through the property is absolutely gorgeous. I loved sitting by the small waterfalls, listening to the sounds of nature, and watching the ducks, geese, herons, and so much more. ___

Not the family resort we have come to expect from a worldmark Don’t get me wrong the pool and rooms were beautiful but they were hard to enjoy. The main pool was full every day with people and beer. My kids had to swim around the people who were standing drinking in the pool besides their large coolers. At night the vaping in the pool would start and this is not what I really want my kids to be exposed to when they are just having a swim. People would blast their own music despite this being against the rules and no one was ever out of the pool at 10pm there were always people continuing to party in the pool way past closing hours and not being very quiet. As well, the pool was often very dirty, I would still find floating bandages in the pool in the morning after it had been cleaned. If I was single and young, this would be a lot of fun but definitely not the family vacation I expected at a worldmark. I was considering joining the club but now I am not so so sure.
