Check-in was fast and very friendly. The room was quiet and clean. We went to the restaurant and had dinner; poutine, caprese sandwich (awesome fries) and wings were more than plenty for two people. The view was of a building under repair, we didn’t care. We were there for one frigid night after a Boston Pops Concert. We were warm comfortable in a clean room, can’t ask for much more than that

Downtown Boston: Revolution-Era Landmarks and Modern Skyscrapers

Downtown Boston is home to one of the country’s wackiest city layouts. Its colonial-village lanes converge, split, and take hairpin turns, creating a maze of cobblestone that, though frustrating for drivers, makes for a fun walking experience. If you’re visiting for the first time, the best way to navigate the area is to follow the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail, which takes you past 16 historical landmarks, including Paul Revere's home, Old North Church (of “One if by land, two if by sea” fame), and Faneuil Hall. You can use Boston public transportation to explore the city if you tire of walking.

Since the area is also the city’s financial district, centuries-old fixtures share sidewalk space with modern 40-story office towers. You’ll find suit-clad professionals grabbing lunch on Washington Street, which is lined with street vendors and flower shops. Downtown is also where you’ll find several of the city’s quirkier neighborhoods, such as the Leather District. With its rustic warehouses, the neighborhood is the closest example of what the business center looked like in the 1800s.

The room was a bit dingy and older, overall it was clean. What really made it nice was the staff . They were amazing and so kind. Everyone we interacted with was helpful and so sweet.

Fantastic hotel and staff and great location Before I go any further, can I just say a massive thank you to Kip who works on reception. We arrived at The Wyndham after our original hotel had been cancelled, no idea why this happened. As it was very, very, very last minute the booking took a while to come through, which resulted in us sitting in reception for around 20 – 30 minutes. After speaking to Kip, he understood what was happening and constantly checked the booking system so he could get us checked in a soon as it appeared. He told us to come to the front of the queue if we heard anything before he did. By this time, we had both been up for around 14 hours as we had travelled from Memphis. It was great customer service, and he shone a light for The Wyndham. The hotel is in a good location. Probably about a 20-minute walk from the harbour area and there are plenty of places to eat within 10 minutes of the hotel. The building across the street is currently getting work done on it. We were in a room that faced this building, but I didn’t get woken by the work that was being carried out. We decided we wanted to go to Salem and saw that you could get a ferry from the harbour. I think it cost around $95 return for me and my wife. On the day we decided to go, the ferry wasn’t running due to the conditions. We were told that we could get the train which took about 45 minutes and ran every 30 minutes. This cost us $32 return total, over $60 cheaper than the ferry. The train goes from North Station which is located underneath The Verizon building. This building is extremely tall, so it’s easy to see and find. Salem train station is about a 5-minute walk from the centre of Salem. Much easier and cheaper than the ferry. The Freedom Trail is a good thing to do when you are in Boston. Lots of people pay to go round with a guide. We decided to do it on our own. I am sure we would have got a lot of info from the guide, but we decided we wanted to take it at our own pace. We could also stop and have a cuppa or lunch whenever we wanted. The trail starts at Boston Common where there is an information centre. You can buy Freedom Trail guides there. We got a $3 one. At the start of the Freedom Trail there is a line of 2 red bricks. You follow this line, which goes right around the trail. This means you can’t get lost whilst walking around the trail. Lots of information along the way and a nice walk. Obviously paid a visit to Cheers whilst we were in Boston. Very busy place. Food was nice and the staff were great. Also done the Boston Tea Party museum. Always remember history teacher at school going on about this. Never really got it to be honest. Lots of information about why it happened and the people involved. We had breakfast most mornings at the Flour bakery and café, which is at the end of the street the hotel is on. This does mainly pastries and overnight oats etc., not a cooked breakfast in sight and to be honest I really enjoyed it.

Bedbugs Our room had bedbugs. I found bites all over my body in the morning and showed to the director. 2 staff were sent to the room and checked the beds and left, no one said anything about what they were going to do nor they gave us a different room. Later that day at 10 pm we returned we found the room extremely hot, beds in plastic bags, the room was a mess with our belongings still in the room, and lots of black bags full with sheets in the bathroom . Immediately called and asked manager to go to the room with me. They had empty bug treatment packages still in the room. We had to gather our stuff late night to move in to another room. We had bags of food supplies in the room as well and all went to waste due chance of contamination of poison used in the room. I had my vintage metal hair clip, copper bracelet and foldable scissors missing. The hotel never compensated for the food and our missing items even though the manager witnessed all of this and took pictures and videos as well.

Close to hospital but probably not the best choice Location to Mass General was very good. Aside from that , room really needs some TLC and beds are a bit lumpy and hard. Bedding is just a sheet and a very thin quilt so bring your own blanket. Consistent loud pounding noise all the time. Sounds like thunder , I am on 5th floor so not sure if it is the heating or what but really hard to get to sleep at night. The most frustrating thing is that the hotel claims to be pet friendly and we chose it for our service dog thinking there would be reasonable access for her for to toilet. Instead I have to walk two blocks to find a dirt patch . Not particularly convenient for a service animal. When asking at front desk , they looked at me like I had three heads. Also was expecting my room cleaned and fresh towels today as we arrived Tuesday and today is Friday. We understood that if we required cleaning or towels any more than every three days to request it.
