Downtown San Antonio: Skyscrapers and the Alamo near the Original Riverwalk

In the late 1920s, architect Robert H. H. Hugman designed an urban park around the San Antonio River. He envisioned a space that would be the American version of Venice, where people could shop and dine along the waterfront. The original section, a 2.5-mile riverwalk running through downtown, was completed in 1941. It’s been a vital artery in the heart of San Antonio ever since; so vital, in fact, that the city added two extensions in the 2000s—Museum Reach and Mission Reach—that elongated the riverwalk to 15 miles total.

Located one story below street level, the downtown section of the riverwalk bustles day and night. Stone pathways on either side of the river wind past waterfalls and public art installations on their way to restaurants, boutiques, and lively cantinas that stay open well into the night. Downtown San Antonio is also where you’ll find the Alamo. The historic mission-turned-fortress is one of the most visited tourist sites in the state, thanks to the 1836 battle that made it a symbol of Texas independence. Admission is free for all ages.

Great location. The Wyndham San Antonio is very conveniently situated right in the heart of all the action. We had a very comfortable one bedroom apt and we enjoyed it very much. The Riverwalk is noisy, at night, but manageable. (esp weekends). Staff is wonderful, they answered and helped up with all our needs. We especially came in contact with Mark, Nina, and Shanika . Very pleasant and hardworking people . Lovely large patio for all to enjoy was a nice touch. This is a small hotel without a lot of extra space.

Club Wyndham Presentation BEWARE DO NOT DO PRESENTATION BY WYNDHAM. Horrible experience!! Lies lies and more lies. Was suppose to take 2 hrs. Was just over 4. Was suppose to get 200 off 2 night stay at any wyndham property, including hotels. I don't think it includes hotels only resorts that are priced beyond my limits. A shuttle was to run every 15 to 20 minutes. Any staff that walked by said they would check. Last staff member indicated bus had flat tire. I asked lady who got off bus if they had a flat tire...her respons was no. I asked driver how often they came by this location and he said every hour to an hour and a half.

Nice but small It was a nice hotel but the suites are pretty small. Excellent view of the Riverwalk from our room. So close that you can hear the music, but not so loud that you can’t sleep. Needs a fitness center.
