Hotel at a Glance: Yosemite Gold Country Lodge

Yosemite Gold Country Lodge’s looks are deceiving. On the outside, it looks like a rustic forest retreat, with a timbered front porch studded with wooden benches. But inside, the lodge has been fully renovated from top to bottom to provide a cushy, modern stay in the great California landscape.

  • Driving time to Yosemite: 25 minutes
  • Nearby attractions: Lake McClure and Historic Jamestown and Sonora

  • Park the truck or RV; the property is a relaxed home base for family vacations.

Yosemite National Park, California: Waterfalls, Half Dome, and Giant Sequoia Trees

Yosemite National Park is a place of superlatives. The massive swath of wilderness in central California is home to one of the world’s tallest waterfalls, the largest piece of exposed granite in the world (climb to the top on a Half Dome hike), and a grove of ancient sequoia trees that are among the largest living beings on the planet. The park is also one of the country’s most popular natural destinations: nearly four million visitors pass through each year.

Spring and early summer are the best times to see the waterfalls, thanks to the snowmelt brought on by warmer weather. Yosemite Falls—a three-tiered cascade considered the highest in North America—transforms into thundering cataracts each spring. Serious hikers can trek to the top on a strenuous hiking trail, which gains 2,700 feet in elevation in just 3.5 miles.

Me and my daughter just visited this place on our way to Yosemite, the room was nice and clean, the service was very friendly, and my daughters favorite part of our vacation was not Yosemite but this place actually because they had bunk beds and campfire at night and we did s’mores so we will for sure come again.

This place is amazing!! Brandon is super guest friendly and took care of us, continuously provided wood for outdoor pit fire and made sure that we are comfortable and at ease. This is important as I was traveling with my 14 year old daughter alone and there was no one else around, no cars, no people, did I mention a thick fog and early sun set. We were comfortable and felt safe there!

Okay Hotel My husband and I stayed here for one night after a travel day. It is about 1 hr 30 minutes outside of Yosemite National Park, though much cheaper compared to hotels I saw that are closer to the park. The drive to this hotel was a lot of fun on "55 mph" roads. The hotel is interesting to look as it has a Buddha and Hindu Gods to look at. It also some interesting things in the lobby. The hotel room had a toaster, coffee pot, microwave and refrigerator. It also had an electric fireplace. The lighting was dim. The tub drained slowly. Breakfast was advertised as "continental" on Expedia, but I would hardly call it breakfast. It had cereal, bread and fruit. I had to eat my cereal with a fork because no other silverware was available and the front desk didn't come when we rang the bell a few times.

Left feeling unsafe and uncomfortable My stay here was not ideal. I was traveling alone and booked via Groupon. My check-in was rough but I looked past that. My room was clean but the door was difficult to operate and I was never really sure if it was locked. There was no service in this area and WiFi provided was spotty at best. I was woken up both nights of my stay by residents yelling very late into the night. The man who worked here was trying to be friendly but ultimately creeped me out as I was a solo female traveler and he would stop what he was doing to come talk to me every time I left my room. If I had not been on a budget, I would have left and stayed elsewhere. Overall, this lodge made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable and I would not recommend it, even if you are on a budget.

Disgustingly GROSS WE LEFT THE PROPERTY AFTER JUST BEING THERE FOR 20 MINUTES AND STAYED SOMEWHERE ELSE! Here’s our story! We booked for 2 nights and as my husband was getting checked in I was in the car greeted by some random drunk people hanging out in the property. We booked their “cabin” room but when we got the room key we were given a regular room. There was NO CABIN in the property. We went to their common area to check the BBQ because we planned to cook for dinner that night. It was so filthy, dirty dishes was left on the sink. The bbq grill was beat up and it was so dirty. Dog poop everywhere and it smells. Random people in and out the property. The room WAS FILTHY! Everything about this property was DISGUSTINGLY GROSS! The room smells like dirty moldy bed! Ewwww!!! Spend little more $$ and book somewhere else!
