Q:

2 Questions... 1 regarding safety at the resort... recent trip advisor comments speak to a recent array of brazen thievery on the property - has anything been done to address this? Are locks being made available, extra security, anyone apprehended etc? 2ndly... how does the transport from airport to island work exactly... are you met at airport and transported from there? Is there any way to arrange a quick 5-10 min stop at a grocery/convenience store for snacks/soft drinks for personal use while at the resort (others on trip advisor have also commented that it is suggested to bring your own as snacks may not be available.)

Jayme F.  asked on  Jan 15, 2013

A:

Thank you for your question. Please rest assure our remote and private island is safe and secure , we pride ourselves and market ourselves on a vacation resort away from all conveniences but still everything you need is right there. In the 20 years of operation we have never had an issue with theft. These complaints are isolated and are not the norm and have never been the norm at Blackbird. The report of the watch was not done until the next morning which is when we involved the coast guard and the other incident was dismissed at the island by the father of the young lady and in his words "she is always losing things". We offer keys to anyone who asks for it, and we also have safety deposit boxes in each room. We are also neighbored by the coastguard operation , we are one of the safest islands in the country. Furthermore, our staff are all senior staff with the company for over 10 years , who are hard workers and honest individuals. Thank you for your question on security. We pick up the guests at the airport and we take them to meet the transfers that will take them to the private island. Yes you may have Mr. Moreno the company driver stop by at a grocery store to get you snacks.

A:

Hi Adam, our island is very remote so there are no trespassers. We have never had a theft issue over the past 20 years. Our staff live on the island, most of whom have been with the resort for over 10 years, and of course other guests are there. The security issue was an attempt for one of our guests to get a refund, which tainted the second review left by a father whose daughter was pretty much partying every night, the dad admitting during checkout that his daughter was careless. We have keys available to anyone who wishes to use them, and there are safety deposit boxes in each room. Part of the allure of the resort is that you can walk out your room and not worry about anything going missing. Please rest assure security is not an issue at Blackbird, we are one of the safest islands in belize as the coastguards are within minutes from the resort. You will be picked up from the international airport by a blackbird driver who will take you to the municipal airport to catch you 15 minute flight out to the resort. The gift shop has many snacks and the bar has many drinks. The prices are very reasonable, sodas $2.00, beers 3-4, exotic drinks 6-8, USD. Like most restaurants we don't advise our guests to bring their own drinks to the resort restaurant or bar. Nonetheless the driver can make stops on the way, yes. Thank you

Q:

Do you have to be certified in diving to take the dive trips or do you offer classes beforehand?

Jonadel R.  asked on  Jan 15, 2013

A:

Hi Jonadel you must be certified before hand to dive, you can get certified before you arrive, or the instructor can certify you at the island. If your not interested in scuba diving you can do the snorkeling. Thank you.

michaela f.  from  Merchant  replied on  Jan 15, 2013

A:

Yes Jonadel you must be certified to scuba dive at the resort. We are a PADI resort and offer different levels of dive classes that you can take at the island or you may take the classes where you live and do the check out dives at Blackbird as a referral class. Thank you !
