Ethnic Villages and Scenic Hiking Trails in the Shadow of the Himalayas

On this 12-day tour of Nepal from Bohemian Tours, you’ll shop the markets of Kathmandu, ride elephants in Nepal’s first national park, and hike in the shadow of the towering Himalayas. The package includes accommodations at guesthouses along the way, as well as breakfast each morning and several other meals. Airfare is not included.

Hike the Rural Countryside of the Annapurna Region

After arriving in Kathmandu, you’ll depart for a multi-day hike through the mountainous countryside and colorful villages of the Annapurna region of the Himalayas. Hikes vary in difficulty and length—from an easy two-hour stroll to a challenging five- to six-hour trek. With every step, however, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of the Himalayas as well as waterfalls and, in springtime, pink and red rhododendrons. Accommodations for this leg of the trip are at Thamel Eco Resort in Kathmandu and simple guest lodges during the trek.

Perhaps the biggest highlight is a visit to Poon Hill, known as one of the best places to watch the sun rise over the snowcapped Dhaulagiri and Annapurna peaks. You’ll also visit the Jhinu hot springs, a great place to swap stories with other adventurers.

Climb Aboard Elephants in Nepal’s First National Park

The subtropical lowlands at Chitwan National Park were once the hunting grounds of the British and Nepalese aristocracy. Today, the property serves as a wildlife refuge. Forested hills, rivers, and steep cliffs provide cover for the elusive Bengal tiger and one of the last populations of single-horned Asiatic rhinos. You’ll see it all from the back of a pachyderm on the included elephant safari—which should come as a welcome change after days of trekking on foot. You can spend the rest of your time here canoeing on the Rapti River, bird watching, and exploring the jungle.

At the end of your adventure, you’ll be transported back to Kathmandu for a day off before you’re shuttled to the airport to catch your flight home.
