• Grab some food: Every restaurant in town is technically within walking distance, but the closest options offer pizza, café fare, and French-bistro cuisine with a Texan twist.

• Go for a swim in Cypress Creek, which runs behind the bed and breakfast.

Comfort, Texas: Small Burg with Historic Downtown

You could walk the entirety of Comfort, Texas, in a single afternoon—the town is only about 3 square miles. Walking its quaint streets may feel a bit like stepping back in time. Comfort was founded in 1854, and most of its buildings date back nearly as far. The well-preserved downtown alone is home to more than 100 19th-century structures—7 of which were designed by architect Alfred Giles—and nearly the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s also a great place to shop for vintage goods. Pop into the handful of antique shops while strolling through downtown. You can also enjoy another kind of vintage a few miles away: sample award-winning varietals like petite sirah and sauvignon blanc at Bending Branch Winery and Singing Water Vineyards.

Less than 10 miles southeast of Comfort lies Joshua Springs Park and Preserve. Hike the granite surface trails or climb Ring Mountain for panoramic views of the park and surrounding Texas Hill Country. Dip your toes into Little Joshua and Allen Creeks on a hot day, or glide across the water in a kayak or canoe.
