The steady swells and regular waves just off Cerritos Beach have long made it a favorite destination for surfers, but you don’t need to be an expert at catching waves to enjoy the crescent-shaped coast. The calmer waters along the Baja California Sur peninsula are great for swimming, as are the waters in Cerritos Surf Colony’s 100-foot outdoor pool. When you’re not relaxing with drinks from the swim-up bar, you can book activities in the area around the resort—everything from hiking to touring nearby art galleries.

Thanks to the enormous size of Los Cerritos Beach, there’s plenty of room to zip around on ATVs or go horseback riding alongside the ocean. Jet skiing and kayaking are also popular. From December through April, beachcombers can spot migrating gray whales and their newborns splashing in the waves offshore.

The Todos Santos artist colony is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Founded as a mission in 1724, the seaside town grew into a sugar-cane production center and then became popular with farmers growing poblano chilies, avocados, papayas, and mangos. In the last decade, Todos Santos has become a hub for artists, who ply their handmade sculptures, paintings, and other works at boutiques and galleries around town.
