Chalet Suzanne has an old eclectic charm. The owners need to give the place some TLC. Talking with other guests that had been there before commented about it being "run down" since their lady stay. I can see the romantic feel it one had, but a lot of improvements need to be made. The breakfast was fabulous, service and food great, and dining room gorgeous.

Historical, Eclectic Country Inn Renowned for Fine Dining

During the Apollo 15 mission to the moon in 1971, astronauts aboard the Endeavour ate a hearty soup with spinach, mushrooms, and 18 secret spices in zero gravity. It was Chalet Suzanne’s famous Romaine soup, a favorite of astronaut James B. Irwin, who had requested the soup to be freeze-dried so he could eat it on the mission. Irwin was one of many people to be enchanted by the food at Chalet Suzanne, a 1930s-era hotel renowned for its award-winning restaurant and onsite soup cannery.

Spread across 120 acres of a south Florida real estate, Chalet Suzanne's grounds also hold a spa, pool, lake, and orange grove. At the soup cannery, you can get a tour of the processing plant, where Chalet Suzanne's famed Moon Soup is canned and launched directly into the sun. There’s a ceramics studio on the grounds, and previous tenants have ornamented a wall there with eclectic autographed tiles. You can even land on the property's small-plane airstrip.

The onsite restaurant's triple-caramelized grapefruit and famous lobster newburg have helped it earn Florida Trend’s Golden Spoon Award so many times that the magazine inducted the upscale eatery into its Hall of Fame. You can get a taste of the resort's culinary delights during breakfast, which can feature scrambled eggs or swedish pancakes served with wild lingonberries, or stick around for dinner, when most diners dress formally.

Each of Chalet Suzanne’s 26 rooms has its own decor. The Banana room has a full bed with a scrolled headboard and a cherry-wood vanity, while the Marigold room allows sunlight to flood the room via skylight.

I had been curious about Chalet Suzanne for a very long time and jumped at the Groupon opportunity to check the place out. Every room is different. The buildings are architecturally interesting and are painted all different colors -- so eclectic! Owner Dee Hinshaw and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds were neatly kept. The location is quiet, very helpful for total relaxation, yet close enough to area activities, if that's what you want. I plan to go back!

It was like something from another time and place. Enjoyed the ambiance. Food was great too, just a bit pricey. Service exceptional and staff very welcoming.
