Grand Cayman: Caribbean Paradise with World-Renowned Snorkeling and Blue Iguanas

The largest of the three Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman lies south of Miami in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. Its pristine shoreline, which includes world-famous Seven Mile Beach, boasts warm turquoise waters filled with spectacular coral reefs. Visitors flock to snorkeling sites to check out an abundance of tropical marine life, including angelfish, tarpon, and barracuda. At Stingray City—one of Grand Cayman’s must-see attractions—you can swim alongside schools of friendly stingrays. Other underwater draws: Eden Rock in the Georgetown harbor and the wreck of the Cali, a sunken schooner that lies in about 20 feet of water.

The island has a wonderfully laidback vibe, best enjoyed with a rum punch from one of the scores of casual seafood restaurants. On the eastern side of the island, Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park abounds with indigenous flora, including a host of gorgeous orchids. The island’s native blue iguanas can also be found here. Just down the road, you can hike the 200-year-old Mastic Trail, which winds through mangrove wetlands and stands of silver thatch palms.
