St. George, Utah: Old West Town near Zion National Park

St. George is located within southwest Utah’s Dixie region, named for a scheme to grow cotton here in response to a post–Civil War crop shortage. The soil proved ill-suited for that project, but St. George has other charms—principally, a landscape of ruddy soil and sandstone bluffs. Thanks to its varied terrain, St. George is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, who rappel down the Virgin River Gorge and go mountain biking along the Santa Clara River.

Downtown St. George, about 20 miles from Coral Springs Resort, features unique relics from the city’s past as a pioneer town. Notorious Old West outlaws are said to have done time in the jail at the center of Ancestor Square. Despite its historical buildings, downtown has plenty of contemporary attractions, including art galleries and pottery studios.

The resort lies halfway between downtown St. George and Zion National Park, which draws about 2.6 million annual visitors to see dramatic canyons and limestone cliffs. Kolob Arch, one of the world’s longest natural arches, is located near the Kolob Canyons at the northern end of the park. Go hiking and you may see peregrine falcons, Mexican spotted owls, desert bighorn sheep, and desert tortoises.

As per my conversation with management, Coral Springs is not handicap friendly and hardly classifes as a resort. The amenities are sorely lacking. Where is the Kleenex in the bathrooms? You provide a BBQ but no tools to use it other than a scraper, which was obviously not used by prior renter or cleaning service. Building H is so fare away from the pool and tennis courts, but it did not matter as they were dark when we got home from dinner. The closest decent restaurants are 10 miles away! That does not classify as a resort as a bar and restaurant should be on sight. Not everyone wants to cook when they are on vacation!

You need to be more specific about the accommodations. We were surprised when we got there to find out that 8 people were going to sleep in one bedroom. A hide-a-bed couch in the living room would be nice.. The room/furnishings were beautiful and the price was good.
