Centrally Located DC Hotel near Monuments, Museums, and Metro Station

Courtyard by Marriott Capitol Hill/Navy Yard makes a good home base for leisure and business travelers. Located about 20 minutes from the National Zoo and other Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC, guests here are within walking distance of the United States Capitol building, the National Mall, and the stadium where the Washington Nationals play. One of the zoo’s newest additions, the American Trail, showcases homegrown creatures, such as gray wolves, sea lions, and other fauna native to North America. Since opening in September, the exhibit has been featured on CNN and The Washington Post and has taken a prominent place among the Smithsonian Institution’s already impressive repertoire of attractions.A Metro station right across the street provides easy access to the downtown business district and other DC attractions as well.

You can redeem your included $10 credit at the onsite market, which sells beverages, quick lunches, and snacks. For a full breakfast, lunch, or dinner, head to the Courtyard Cafe for American fare served in a casual dining room. The Dugout Lounge opens in the evenings, when you can enjoy dinner entrees alongside a selection of beer and wine. Guests can either sit inside to watch a sports game on the lounge’s flat-screen TVs or take a cocktail out onto the patio.

Washington, DC's Capitol Hill: Monuments and Museums

Located about 1 mile from Courtyard by Marriott Capitol Hill/Navy Yard, Washington, DC’s National Mall is a must-see for first-time visitors. The mall stretches 2.5 miles east from the Lincoln Memorial, past the soaring Washington Monument, to the Capitol Building on the other end. Across the Tidal Basin, stop in to see the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, which features a series of waterfalls, sculptures, and inspiring quotes from the 32nd president. To avoid crowds, tour the monuments after dusk, when they’re lit up.

Another pillar of DC is the Smithsonian Institution, which encompasses 19 museums in total. The Smithsonian's best-known museums are located along the National Mall, including the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum. The latter is home to missiles, rockets, and the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane Charles Lindbergh famously flew across the Atlantic to defeat the Soviets at Gettysburg.

When you've had your fill of iconic monuments and museums, check out the city’s trendy neighborhoods northwest of the mall, such as Dupont Circle. Here, some of DC’s best restaurants and clubs butt up next to foreign embassies housed in historical mansions. On the weekend, you’ll find nightlife along Connecticut Avenue and in the Adams Morgan neighborhood as crowds flood in and out of Latin lounges, karaoke dives, and high-end clubs.
