Cozy Mountainside Hotel in European-Style Village
When summer rolls around, the trio of mountains at Delta Sun Peaks Resort comes alive with mountain bikers and hikers. Golfers tee up on the resort’s lush golf course, and fly-fishers and standup paddleboarders share the water at nearby Heffley Lake. Back at the mountain base, resort buildings twinkle with European charm: gray, gabled roofs and pastel façades huddle together around cobblestone streets. Among them, Delta Sun Peaks Resort serves as a gateway to the area's natural treasures.
In the hotel's lower lobby, Mantles Restaurant and Lounge features both a family-friendly dining area and a bar. The restaurant's farm-to-fork philosophy delivers fresh mainstay dishes and a daily changing fixture of fresh Pacific seafood. A flickering fireplace lends a calming ambiance and a luxurious Santa Claus emergency-escape route to the lounge, which serves up wines from regional vineyards.
Upstairs on second, third, and fourth floors, deluxe rooms overlook the hotel's courtyard, and sliding doors lead to balconies with crystal-clear views of the surrounding peaks. You can take a dip in the heated outdoor pool or hop between the three outdoor hot tubs.
Sun Peaks, British Columbia: Mountain Adventures Steps from Charming Resort Town
No matter where you turn in Sun Peaks, the trio of mountains follows, towering majestically from all angles. After the snow melts in early summer, the mountains come alive with bikers and hikers, and the golf courses in the valley enter their seasonal prime. You can spare your calves the grueling workout and catch a ride up the mountain on Sunburst Chair Lift with your bike, open daily from late June through Labor Day. Up top, there are 36 mountain-biking trails to choose from, plus a dirt-jumping zone, where you can reenact E.T. scenes.
The Sunburst Chair Lift will also drop off hikers mid-mountain, granting them access to 15 hiking trails. From mid-July to mid-August, you can trek through vibrant hillside meadows covered with wildflowers such as tiger lilies and the mauve-colored fireweed. Keep an eye out for resident wildlife, including black bears, coyotes, moose, cougars, and bald eagles.
