Year-Round Golf Resort with Campus Full of Activities

In winter, central Oregon’s high desert stays dry during the day even as fresh powder accumulates on the nearby Cascade Range mountains. Consequently, you can set an unusual itinerary—skiing in the morning, followed by golfing that same afternoon on the Eagle Crest Resort courses, which stay open as long as there’s no ice. The area averages 300 days of sunshine a year, so golfers won’t lose too many errant balls in the high desert’s ubiquitous juniper trees.

The resort’s campus has more beyond golf and skiing. Three sports centers house an indoor pool, workout rooms, and ball courts. More than 12 miles of paved trails stretch along the scenic Deschutes River. At the full-service spa, aestheticians knead out knots and pamper guests with locally produced organic skincare products (the spa is set to re-open in October after renovations).

After a long day in the fresh air, you can recharge in 1 of the 100 rooms at the lodge. The olive-green building overlooks the Resort course’s 16th green and 17th tee, and you can see the course from the private decks and patios in some rooms. Each double-queen guest room features a 42-inch flat-screen TV to watch the 24-hour Caddyshack channel or HBO programming. Upgraded one-bedroom king suites have kitchenettes along with sleeper sofas and living-room areas.

Redmond, Oregon: Easy Access to Central Oregon Adventures

Situated in the middle of Oregon, Redmond is a logical jumping-off point to many destinations across the state. About 20 miles west, the little town of Sisters exudes cowboy-country charm, with shops lining the main street selling everything from T-shirts to barbecue to boots. Sisters takes its name from the Three Sisters volcanic peaks—named Hope, Faith, and Charity—that rise more than 10,000 feet in the distance. The Three Sisters Wilderness area falls within the Deschutes National Forest, visited by more than 8 million people each year for camping, hiking, and skiing.

Roughly 17 miles south of Eagle Crest Resort, you’ll find central Oregon’s biggest city, Bend, where the historical Old Mill District bustles alongside a lively downtown. The Deschutes Brewery keeps this beer town’s whistle wet, and music venues buzz with blues and rock. “It seems everyone wants to be here nowadays,” says lifelong resident Dylan Jones. “They’re catching on.”
