Tour Itinerary at a Glance
Istanbul is a city that straddles continents. Set along the Bosphorus Strait, this vibrant, thriving metropolis is either the end of Europe or the beginning of Asia, depending on how you look at it. Amid mosques, bazaars, chic restaurants, and modern nightclubs, you’ll find evidence of the city’s important role in the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires. After exploring the city you’ll head south past the Gallipoli peninsular and the ancient site of Troy, following beautiful Mediterranean coastlines to the amazing ruined Roman city of Ephesus. The strange calcium travertines at Pamukkale and Roman Hieropolis follow before returning to Istanbul.
- Day 1: Depart for Turkey.
- Day 2: Arrive in Istanbul and transfer to hotel. Early arrivals can visit the Egyptian Spice Bazaar, then take a boat tour around Bosphorous.
- Day 3: Visit the 17th century Blue Mosque, the Aya Sofya museum, Topkapi Palace, and the Hippodrome during a morning city tour of Istanbul. In the afternoon explore the city further or take an optional Bosphorous boat cruise on the stretch of water separating Europe from Asia.
- Day 4: During your transfer to Canakkale, explore Gallopoli on a fully guided tour of this World War I battlefield site.
- Day 5: Follow the Mediterranean coastline to Kusadasi, en-route seeing the ancient city of Troy, where the Trojan horse myth is set. Later visit the Acropolis of Pergamum.
- Day 6: Discover Temple of Artemis and roam the ancient marble streets of the ruined Roman city of Ephesus. Enjoy a second evening relaxing in the coastal town of Kusadasi.
- Day 7: Travel to see the strange stepped calcium travertines at Pamukkale and the ruins of the Greek and Roman city of Hieropolis. Take an optional dip in the therapeutic spa waters, utilized here for centuries.
- Day 8: Return to Istanbul with a pit stop in Bursa to visit the famous Green Mosque and explore the Silk Bazaar.
- Day 9: Last-minute leisure in Istanbul for shopping or more sightseeing. Fly back to the USA.
