Q:

I cannot travel on the specified dates in option 1, so I would like to choose option 2, and travel in early Jan. 2014. I looked on the website of the company, and the price for the dates I would want is not $1139 per person as you advertise, but much more. Can I get any date other than the specified dates in option 1 for your price of $1139 per person? Or will I be paying more?

MARGARET S.  asked on  Mar 7, 2013

A:

Hello Margaret, yes you can travel in early 2014 and still pay the lower price of $1,139. The price of this package is normally $1,896 per person, and that's why you see that price on the Epitourean.com price. If you purchase the Groupon for $1,139...we will honor it for your January, 2014 departure date. Just contact us at customerservice@epitourean.com and let us know the exact dates you would like to travel.

Q:

Hello! How do you pronounce Tlaxcala? Should we be prepared to speak some basic tourist Spanish. What kind of security is available to us during our stay. We have all read of the crime in Mexico. How about in Tlaxcala? How large a citiy is it? Thankyou.

fred n.  asked on  Mar 5, 2013

A:

Hello Fred, the pronunciation of Tlaxcala is somewhat phonetic. Ta lox kala is the best way I can describe it. As for security, the U.S. Consulate in Mexico has listed Tlaxcala as one of the safest areas in Mexico to visit…if not the safest. Some of the big resort areas of Mexico, such as Acapulco, have seen some issues with crime…as well as the border towns, but rural areas such as Tlaxcala have seen very little crime. The population of the city of Tlaxcala is about 89,000…so it is relatively small, which could also account for its low crime rate.

Q:

Hi, I'm planning to stay with a friend in Mexico City eiher before or after the tour. Would it be possible to arrange pick up or drop off somewhere else central besides the airport? Thanks.

Joy M.  asked on  Mar 4, 2013

A:

Hello Joy, due to the nature of this tour and the distance between Mexico City and Tlaxcala, there is only one pick up and return. However, there is a possibility that we could arrange to have a taxi pick you up at a different location other than the airport. The cost would be about $95 USD one way. It would be better for you to contact our customer care center if you have a number of questions, or for special requests. You can reach us at 800-390-3292 or customerservice@epitourean.com.

Q:

I am not sure how this all works, but is there an arrive by time that is suggested for the pick up in Mexico at the airport. I see that departures should not be before 2 pm. Wondering about arrival. Thanks

Margaret S.  asked on  Mar 4, 2013

A:

Hello Margaret, since most arrivals occur between 12 PM and 4 PM…we always arrange the pick-up at the airport around 5 or 5:30 PM. However, we always collect flight information from everyone in the group, then provide the final pick-up time within your itinerary. For the purpose of coordinating your flights, we recommend that you arrive into Mexico City between 12 Noon and 4 PM if at all possible.

Q:

On the trip to the market place to buy the vegetables etc, that will be made on the cooking day, who will be paying for them. Are we paying for them or is this included in the market price. If it is up to us to pay about how much should we expect to be spending?

Margaret S.  asked on  Mar 2, 2013

A:

Hello Margaret, all of the ingredients for your cooking classes and meals are included in the price of your package. However, should you decide to purchase something extra while visiting the markets, then that would of course be at your own expense. This is a comprehensive culinary tour and includes all of your meals, lodging, cooking classes, excursions and even drinks (both soft and alcoholic).

Q:

I note from a previous question that we will have one afternoon on our own. Are we free to go into Tlaxcala in the evenings after dinner? Would it be possible to arrange taxis in the evening? Thanks.

Joy M.  asked on  Mar 1, 2013

A:

Hello Joy, the hosts are happy to arrange taxi service into town for any evening, and the fare for taxi service from the Casa into Tlaxcala is about 80 pesos...or a little over $6 USD. And that is for up to 3 people...so it is very reasonable.

Q:

Hello again, Dave. Thanks for answering my questions. I also saw another response on the airport pick-up time, but I need to know about the drop off time. The best and only flight I can get back home departs MEX at 2:05 PM. Would they be able to get us to the airport with time to spare for customs/bag inspections with that departure? Also, is there availability for two, dbl occ, king, May 26-Jun1? Also Jun 9-15?

Steve  asked on  Feb 28, 2013

A:

Hi Steve, we normally ask that guests not schedule their return flight before 2 PM in the afternoon. If you have a flight that leaves at 2:05 PM you are fine. That's just inside the allowed timeframe. Whenever a guest can't coordinate a flight that allows them to travel with the group, arrangements can be made to have a Taxi pick you up or take you to the airport within your required timeframe. The extra fee for this is $95 each way (or one way if that's the case). And that is per Taxi not per person. Regarding availability, we have space on May 26 - June 1 as of right now. We do not have any space remaining for the week of June 9 - 15.

Q:

I'm trying to get a friend to go with me. Should I book now and then pay the supplement fee if she cannot go? How do I know if the date I would like is available?

Susan m.  asked on  Feb 28, 2013

A:

Hello Susan, yes you can buy your Groupon now and make your reservation...letting our culinary travel specialists know that you will have a traveling companion. Should your companion not be able to join you, we can process your single supplement at that time. In order to determine if your dates are available, you should call 800-390-3292 or you can email us at customerservice@epitourean.com. This is a fabulous culinary vacation, so we hope you can join us!

Q:

A few questions: 1. What is the typical class size? What is the max they allow? 2. What is a typical day like, ie, all cooking, or is it broken up with more excursions than listed? Are we responsible for our own excursions as well? 3. Is there wi-fi available? Is there cell phone coverage? 4. And the elephant in the room: Knowing what we read in the news about Mexico City, safety is a big issue to my wife, which is delaying me purchasing this deal. Any reassurances as to security you can tell us about?

Steve  asked on  Feb 28, 2013

A:

Hello Steve, here are the answers to your questions: 1) typical size is 4 to 6 people, with the maximum size being 6. 2) After you enjoy a bountiful breakfast, most cooking classes are held in the mid-morning…with lunch served directly after class. However, this changes depending upon the excursions planned for that day. You will have one afternoon where you will be able to explore on your own, and suggestions will be provided by your host (with transportation being arranged if needed). 3) WiFi is available at no additional charge. While cell service is available, it can be less dependable than in the States. 4) While we understand that Mexico has had some negative press regarding safety, the State Department lists Tlaxcala as one of the safest areas of Mexico to visit…with Puebla coming in a close second. Mexico is largely a very safe country to visit, especially in rural areas. In that respect, it is no different than the U.S.
