It’s only about 25 miles long and 1 mile wide, but the island packs a lot of natural sights into its small landscape, including a series of low sand ridges, lagoons, and mangrove swamps. It’s situated just 10 minutes by boat from the Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef in the world, home to numerous rainbow-colored parrotfish and octopuses.
San Pedro, the island’s only town, sits on the southern end, about a half mile from Exotic Caye Beach Resort. Formerly a small fishing village, it now boasts a variety of boutiques where you can shop for artisan crafts ranging from ziricote woodcarvings and Guatemalan jewelry to pinup photos of nude toucans.
