AAA Four-Diamond Fairmont Hotel With Views of the Santa Cruz Mountains
Industry leaders, celebrities, presidents, and foreign dignitaries frequently pass through Silicon Valley, the headquarters of America’s tech industry. Many of these notable figures stay at the AAA Four Diamond–rated Fairmont San Jose, conveniently situated in downtown San Jose.
There’s an abundance of restaurants close to the Fairmont, but you don’t need to leave the hotel to find fine dining. Onsite is McCormick and Schmick’s, which serves seafood, and as well as TAKAI Sushi & Sake, an upscale Japanese restaurant. Every day, the Fairmont hosts traditional afternoon tea, where award-winning pastry chef Fernando Arreola pairs specially blended teas with freshly baked scones topped with chantilly cream and preserves. For something with more kick, you can choose from a menu of more than 500 martinis at the lobby lounge.
Right outside the hotel is Downtown Ice, where you can skate on a groomed ice rink. The Fairmont is also close to Christmas in the Park, a family-friendly holiday tradition with a decorated Victorian village, 25-foot Christmas tree, and photo opportunities with Santa.
San Jose, California: Silicon Valley’s Largest City near Wine Country
San Jose lies less than 60 miles from San Francisco in the Silicon Valley. It’s neighbored by Mountain View and Palo Alto, where tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Intel have their headquarters on what was once agricultural land. The new influx of money from the tech sector has attracted fine-dining restaurants, shops, and a thriving arts scene to the area. Within walking distance of the Fairmont is the San Jose Museum of Art, the symphony, opera and ballet.
Microchips haven’t completely taken over the former farmland around San Jose, though. The jagged Santa Cruz Mountains and rolling valleys have rich soils for growing grapes. Silicon Valley wine country has more than 30 wineries that produce pinot noir, syrah, and zinfandel. There’s also a wide selection of golf courses that you can enjoy year-round thanks to the area’s Mediterranean-like weather.
