Q:

I would love to go to the Galapagos ...it would be a shame to go all the way to Ecuador and not go to them. is it possible to take a side trip or do you have another trip which includes them?

Annette M.  asked on  Jan 31, 2013

A:

We have a few trips that include Ecuador and the Galapagos, I am including the link to the tour page so that you can review the options, http://www.friendlyplanet.com/vacation-packages/south-america/galapagos.html, I'm sure you would enjoy one of these tours.

Q:

Are Visa and MasterCard widely accepted? What about street vendors?

Carrying a mix of both cash and credit card will serve you best. Major credit cards will be accepted at hotels, but obviously not at street vendors.

Q:

1. Will we row the canoes or will there be guides to do that for us? 2. Does the price include entrance to the hot springs or is that an additional charge? Thank you!

Becky W.  asked on  Jan 31, 2013

A:

You will not be rowing the canoes, the canoe operators do that. The Hot Springs is an optional activity that you would pay for separately while in destination.

Q:

Do we need to worry about altitude sickness on this tour? Should we consult a doctor before going to Ecuador for anything?

Stephanie D.  asked on  Jan 31, 2013

A:

Everyone has a different tolerance for the altitude, some people are not bothered at all and some people are more sensitive. You and your physician would be the best judge of your tolerance for the altitude. I am including the altitudes visited on this tour so that you can review the information with your physician; Otavalo 2560 meters above sea level, Banos 1820 meters above sea level, Cotopaxi 3400 - 5897 meters above sea level, Amazon Rain Forest 100 - 3040 meters above sea level.

Q:

We (2) are interested in the Ecuador Tour and would like to select a month options where the rainfall is the least. From May-Aug, which month normally has the least rain in the areas on the tour?

Gwendolyn L.  asked on  Jan 31, 2013

A:

The highland dry season is from June through September, with another short, dry season around Christmas. It doesn't rain daily in the wet season, however. April, the wettest month, averages one rainy day in two. Daytime temperatures in Quito aver-age a high of21 °C (70°F) and a low of 8°C (48°F) year-round.

Q:

Aloha: I am a widower and will be traveling solo. 1. Can I select the hotel I want to stay in? 2. Is there an extra charge for that? 3. I see there's an extra charge for solo travelers - what is that for? 4. I do not want to share a room - possible? If so, any extra charges I need to be aware of? Thanks, Norm B.

Norm B.  asked on  Jan 31, 2013

A:

We don't offer optional hotels for our tours. We work diligently to ensure that we chose very nice comfortable accommodations for travelers. There is a single supplement it is $275. When you pay the single supplement it guarantees that you have a room to yourself. We do not match passengers with roommates, but we do offer a roommate finder on our website should you decide that you would like to travel with someone. http://www.friendlyplanet.com/faqs/find-roommate.html

We have no affiliation with any points program so that would not be valid for any of our tours.

You can combine our tour packages we have a package that does Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos.
