6-Day Tour of the Galapagos Islands

This small cluster of Pacific islands off the coast of South America is home to some of the most diverse foliage and animal life on the planet. During this 6-day tour, you’ll have the chance relax on white sand beaches while spotting exotic wildlife including blue-footed boobies, Galapagos penguins, iguanas, sea lions, manta rays, birds and more. Guests will also visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about the ongoing conservation efforts on the islands. The trip includes:

  • Round-trip airfare from MIA via LAN Airlines including fuel surcharges, taxes, and fees
  • 1 night at the Deluxe Radisson Royal in Quito, Ecuador
  • 3 nights at the Superior Angermeyer Waterfront Inn on Santa Cruz Island
  • Round-trip airfare from Quito to the Galapagos
  • 11 meals: 4 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 4 dinners
  • Comprehensive sightseeing tours
  • Bilingual naturalist guides
  • Ground transportation<p>

Days 1–2: Santa Cruz Island

You’ll spend the night in Quito, Ecuador, before heading to Santa Cruz Island—the second largest of the Galapagos chain. You’ll have a day to explore lava tunnels and a wildlife reserve for giant tortoises.

  • Twin Craters: Two enormous volcanic craters, known as Los Gemelos in Spanish, are surrounded by jungle foliage where many species of birds can be seen
  • El Chato Reserve: home to some of the archipelago’s famous giant tortoises
  • Lava tunnels: Walk through underground tubes that were formed when the outside of a molten lava flow solidified, while the inside kept flowing.

Days 3–4: Island-Hopping

On this leg of the trip, the focus turns to the archipelago’s smaller islands. Depending on your departure date, you’ll spend the day on one of the following islets:

  • Bartolome Island: An extinct volcano with a variety of red, orange, green and black volcanic formations where penguins and sea lions bask in sunlight atop Pinnacle Rock, a seaside obelisk that appeared in the movie Master and Commander.
  • North Seymour Island is known for its large population of crimson-throated frigate birds. When you’re not birdwatching, you can check out a diverse landscape of prickly pear cacti and palo santo trees.
  • South Plazas Island: The black volcanic sand here is frequented by iguanas and brightly colored crabs, and manta rays can be spotted in the inlets.
  • Santa Fe Island: where iguanas grow to more than 5 feet long and the indigenous opuntia cactus can reach more than 30 feet in height

Days 5–6: Santa Cruz Island/Depart Quito

  • Charles Darwin Research Station: raises tropical plant life and giant tortoises
  • Visit the village of Puembo for dinner at the colonial hacienda Rincon de Puemba
