Q:

How do we deal with luggage? Do you transport it to our next destination? Do we have any options if we don't want to hike for 2 hours and what type of terrain. Are hiking boots required Thanks

Q:

Re: 2 hour hike. Can that be done at one's own pace or do you have to stay up with the group? How does luggage get transported, i.e. canoe trip to lodge carrying luggage? What currency is used in Equador? Wi-Fi available? Thank you.

JoAnn M.  asked on  Jan 8, 2014

A:

For safety reasons, the hike should be done with the group. The US Dollar is the currency of Ecuador. When traveling to smaller towns in Ecuador it can be difficult to break even $20 and $10 bills; therefore it is recommended to carry plenty of US $1 bills to make tipping and local purchases easier. Not all hotels will have internet access. Passengers requiring internet access can often locate free WiFi hotspots such as libraries or coffee shops. Hotspots can often be located and planned in advance via an online search.

Q:

What is the highest altitude on this trip?

Teri S.  asked on  Jan 5, 2014

A:

Quito is situated at an altitude of 9,400 feet above sea level. Therefore, you should allow a few hours to adjust to the high altitude by resting and eating lightly. Other areas of Ecuador are also situated at high altitudes including Otavalo (8,400 feet), Papallacta (10,800 feet), and Patate (8,400 feet).
