Days 1–4: Flight, Old Delhi, and New Delhi

After an overnight flight, you’ll arrive in the country’s capital, New Delhi, on day 2. You’ll be transferred to your hotel and be free to relax for the rest of the day. On day 3, you’ll take a guided tour of Old and New Delhi, where you’ll see Hindu temples and the India Gate, a monument to Indian and British soldiers.

  • Jama Masjid is the largest and best-known mosque in India, located in Old Delhi.
  • Gandhi Smriti: Visit the house-turned-museum where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life.
  • Ride in a rickshaw through the ever-crowded Chandni Chowk bazaar, where locals squeeze past side-by-side outdoor stands adorned with gold jewelry and colorful saris.

Days 4–6: Jaipur

The tour ventures south to Jaipur, stopping en route at Qutab Minar, a 230-foot minaret dating back to the 12th century. This free-standing brick tower will be a sharp contrast to the distinctive pink terra-cotta facades you’ll see in Jaipur, a city of 3 million people. You’ll spend 3 nights in this “Pink City,” highlighted by a visit to Amber Fort, a red sandstone and marble fortress that fuses Mughal and Hindu architectural styles.

  • Thousands of reflective tiles line the walls and ceiling of the Palace of Mirrors. If you stand inside the main hall at just the right moment, you can see natural light reflecting off of the mirrors to illuminate the whole interior.
  • Admire precious stones at the family-owned Antiquariat, one of the oldest jewelry shops in Jaipur.
  • Shop for souvenirs at Jaipur Handicrafts, where the selection includes handmade carpets, pottery, and colorful fabrics.
  • Optional tours: Take a half-day tour of Jaipur ($21/person); eat dinner at a local restaurant before taking in a cultural show ($29-$34/person)

Days 6–8: Agra and Taj Mahal

On day 6, you’ll leave Jaipur and head toward Agra, stopping at the small ancient village of Abhaneri along the way. The highlight of your time in Agra will be a visit to the Taj Mahal, a monument of sheer white marble that took more than two decades to complete.

  • Why it’s special: The Taj Mahal is a decadent token of affection—Shah Jahan built it for his third wife after her untimely death. The marble palace sparkles with hundreds of semiprecious stones and is surrounded by persian gardens and ornate fountains.
  • Agra Fort: This red-sandstone fortress-turned-palace is nothing short of imposing, with its double-thick walls, crenelated towers, and a moat that was once filled with crocodiles to fend off intruders. You can visit it during an optional tour on day 7 ($29/person).
  • Bollywood dance and dinner: In the evening, you can join your fellow travelers for dinner at an Agra restaurant with a Bollywood dance performance before or after the meal ($29/person).

Days 8–9: New Delhi and Departure

On the morning of day 8, you’ll board the motorcoach for New Delhi. That night, you’ll have a festive farewell dinner with your tour group. You’ll be taken to the airport on day 9 for your flight back to the United States.
