You’ll begin your trip in the cosmopolitan capital of Oslo, which blends Scandinavian arts and culture with breathtaking outdoor space. Then, it’s a quick flight north to Kirkenes, where you’ll board the MS Nordlys for a five-day cruise along the country’s northern reaches. Along the way, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle, cruise past breathtaking wilderness (and possibly the Northern Lights), and visit some of Norway’s oldest cities before traipsing through the seaport city of Bergen to end your trip.
- Oslo: Norway’s capital is the only European city where you can go hiking, biking, sailing, and skiing within the city limits. There’s also Nordic history at the Viking Ship Museum, where you can see the intimidating hulls of ships built around AD 800.
- Hammerfest: Situated around an ice-free harbor, the port town of Hammerfest is home to fresh shrimp, picturesque views, and the Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society, an eccentric museum dedicated to Arctic hunting heritage.
