A Closer Look

This tour starts in Saint Petersburg—the northernmost city in the world with a population of more than one million—and ends in Moscow, the Russian capital, home to the Kremlin, Red Square, and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. In between, you’ll cruise on the MS Zosima Shashkov or MS Konstantin Fedin to some of Russia’s hidden gems, seeing an 800-year-old church in the Viking-era town of Yaroslavl and smelling the liquor at the Museum of Russian Vodka in small Mandrogi.

  • Saint Petersburg city tour: Visit Palace Square, the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, and the Hermitage Museum, Russia’s massive art museum, on day 3.
  • Church of the Transfiguration: You’ve never seen anything like this all-wooden 18th-century church, located on Kizhi island in Lake Onega (day 6).
  • Moscow city tour: See Saint Basil’s Cathedral—the country’s whimsical domed icon—as well as Red Square on day 10.
  • The Kremlin: Towering red-brick walls surround this former fortress, which houses Russian Orthodox churches and lavish palaces. It sits right next door to Saint Basil’s, on the banks of the Moskva River (day 11).
  • Optional add-ons will be available for purchase locally and include a ballet performance (day 3), a tour of Saint Petersburg’s rivers and canals (day 3), tours of the Catherine Palace and Peterhof park (day 4), a nighttime tour of Moscow (day 10), a visit to the Kremlin Armory Chamber (day 11), and a tour of the Novodevichy Convent (day 11).
