San José sightseeing city tour
Visit to Carara National Park and crocodile spotting tour at Tárcoles River

On this seven-day vacation to Costa Rica, you’ll spend three days soaking up the culture of cosmopolitan San José before heading to the coastal province of Puntarenas, home to one of Central America’s premier surfing destinations, Playa Hermosa. This package includes accommodations, a guided sightseeing tour of San José, and a crocodile spotting tour at Carara National Park; transfers are included.

San José: Capital City with Bustling Markets and Nightlife

Though it’s Costa Rica’s capital city and cultural hub, San José contains some of the country’s best-kept secrets. During your stay, you can take a walking tour of Barrio Amón, one of San José’s oldest neighborhoods, to soak up the colonial architecture and sample street food, such as tamales and pupusas (stuffed flatbread). During the day, you’ll encounter many cafés and open-air markets full of artisan crafts. By night, flashy discos can be found in all flavors, from the ultrasophisticated to full-on rowdy.
Playa Hermosa: Surfing Beach near Tropical Rainforests

In Puntarenas, you’re never far from a beach. Costa Rica’s biggest province occupies a long, thin section of the country alongside nearly 500 miles of Pacific coastline overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya. Here you’ll find Playa Hermosa, a 6-mile stretch of black sand that’s considered one of the top surfing destinations in Central America. The beach is located just outside the laid-back town of Jacó, where you’ll be staying. Just a few miles inland from Jacó, Carara National Park is the country’s northernmost tropical rainforest. The park provides shelter for poison-dart frogs, two-toed sloths, and hundreds of scarlet macaws (a rare sight in most parts of the country).
