Explore Europe’s Most Iconic Destinations

This 15-day vacation takes you to many of Western Europe’s top travel destinations—you can experience Spanish nightlife, admire Italian art, and savor French cuisine. You’ll have time to explore each of five cities on your own, so you can guiltlessly spend an afternoon at the Colosseum in Rome or lounging in a gondola in Venice. This vacation includes:

Days 1–3: Barcelona

  • Picasso Museum: With 4,251 paintings, this museum houses the world’s most extensive collection of artworks by Pablo Picasso, including the entire 58-painting Las Meninas collection.
  • Witness history in the making at La Sagrada Familia, a whimsical Antoni Gaudí–designed church that has slowly taken shape over 130 years; it’s estimated to be finished by 2026.

Days 4–6: Rome

  • See the Colosseum Built in 72 AD, this amphitheater hosted some of the Roman Empire’s bloodiest gladiator battles. Stroll around the outside to get a feel for its massive size.
  • Tour Vatican City: The expansive gardens alone are reason enough to visit this attraction. Perhaps the main draw, though, is the Sistine Chapel, whose famous ceiling—and The Creation of Adam—was hand painted by Italian master Michelangelo.
  • St. Peter’s Basilica: Also in Vatican City, this church holds up to 60,000 people, making it the largest Christian church in the world. It’s also one of the most ornate, boasting the architectural flair of Michelangelo and sculptures by Bernini.

Days 7–10: Florence

  • Michelangelo’s David is on display at the Galleria dell’Accademia. After taking in the lifelike musculature of this 14-foot-tall, white-marble statue, check out the artist’s unfinished Prisoners sculptures.
  • A hop-on, hop-off bus tour is any easy way to reach top attractions, including the Duomo cathedral and Piazzale Michelangelo, arguably the best spot to get a snapshot of the city.

Days 11–12: Venice

  • Cruise the Grand Canal in a gondola to tour Venice as it was meant to be seen. Along both sides of the canal, enjoy views of beautiful architecture that ranges from neoclassical to Venetian Gothic.
  • Doge’s Palace: The city’s 14th-century palace—once the official residence of the city’s chief magistrate—features a massive late-Gothic gate and operates today as an art museum.

Days 13–15: Paris

  • The Eiffel Tower: Despite being called a “truly tragic street lamp,” it’s among the world’s most famous attractions; its platforms are also great places to take in panoramic views of the City of Lights.
  • Musée d’Orsay: This museum is home to an impressive collection of impressionistic art, including Édouard Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’Herbe and Olympia.
  • Avenue des Champs-Élysées is one of the world’s most iconic thoroughfares. Cafés, cinemas, and luxury shops pepper the pedestrian-friendly street between major architectural sites, such as the Luxor Obelisk and Arc de Triomphe.
