Family-Friendly Lodge Rooms and Cottages in Brainerd Lakes Area
Vacationing at the Gold Ol’ Days Family Resort is like taking a step back in time. Easy days at the waterfront property can be spent relaxing on a sandy beach abutting Lower Cullen Lake, fishing above sunken islands, or canoeing across the channel in search of wildlife. The manicured resort grounds are dotted with picnic tables, a playground, lawn swings, and a volleyball court. Each day starts off with a complimentary continental breakfast.
The property underwent a massive restoration of the property in 2007, where all the original buildings were replaced with 10 brand-new cottages and an eight-room
lodge. Cottages feature corner fireplaces, 42” plasma TVs, wood flooring, and vaulted ceilings. They also have full-sized kitchens, dining areas, and outdoor patios. Rooms in the lodge are individually decorated with memorabilia from previous owners. Each has a flat-screen TV, a kitchenette, and an outdoor patio or deck.
With the included Wilderness Resort passes, you can take advantage of the amenities at the neighboring Wilderness Resort, where you’ll find a pool, hot tub, sauna, game room, and fitness room.
Nisswa, Minnesota: Old-Fashioned Fun and the Paul Bunyan Trail
Nisswa is a small town surrounded by dozens of lakes about two hours north of Minneapolis. Year-round visitors come to the area to enjoy the landscape and spend time walking and shopping in the quaint central square. Stop by StoneHouse Coffee for a cup of java roasted in-house or The Chocolate Ox for an ice cream cone. Another popular attraction is the Paul Bunyan Trail accessible from the property — at 112 miles, the longest paved bike path in the state.
It was a wonderful stay, although one of the beds was uncomfortable. However, the other was good, and the owner was very receptive to that feedback. Very clean, great amenities, wonderful location.

Cottage was very comfortable & well equipped. Surprised to find a decorated Christmas tree in the living room -- nice addition. Evening bon fire in the winter. Very nice resort. I have been telling all my family & friends about this recent find.
