English-Style Manor in the Heart of Salt Lake City

When the members of the British Olympic team needed a place to stay during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, they chose a cozy, English country-style mansion located within walking distance of downtown. In the Brighton room, you'll find rose-toned walls and a carved four-poster bed; the Windsor features an antique desk, a brick fireplace, and an old-fashioned wardrobe. In the morning, a complimentary hot breakfast awaits. You can sip coffee in the downstairs living room or out on the porch before heading into the city for the day.

Salt Lake City: Mormon Heritage, Skiing, and the Great Salt Lake

Salt Lake City was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young, one of the earliest leaders of the Mormon church. Circled by mountains on every side, Utah's capital city occupies a fertile valley that draws tons of visitors each year looking to play in the great outdoors. Skiing is of course one of the most popular pastimes. Thanks to the nearly 500 inches of snow the area receives annually, several year-round resorts offer access to slopes suitable to skiers of all skill levels. Northwest of the city lies the Great Salt Lake—the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere.

Those interested in the origins of the city or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints can check out the Church History Museum, home to a large collection of Mormon art and artifacts. If you are looking to research your own history, you can visit the Family History Library, a large database with an extensive history and an enormous staff of professional staffers and trained volunteers which is open to the general public for no charge. You can also take a tranquil stroll through the Temple Square gardens at the iconic Salt Lake Temple.
