The Dudley Hotel is a quaint hotel boasting its heritage. Being an older building, it has been tastefuly updated over the years, although a little more updating is needed in some areas. Our room was spacious and clean, and the amenities were great. Everyone at the hotel was more than accomodating, and the restaurant had excellent food. I definitely look forward to staying there again next year.

Located in small, scenic town, this historic hotel built in 1868 has welcomed Franklin Roosevelt and Hillary Clinton

Salamanca, New York: Small Town on American Indian Reservation near NY’s Largest State Park

Salamanca has the distinction of being the only U.S. city located on an American Indian Reservation—the Allegany Reservation in southwestern New York. The territory belongs to the Seneca Nation, the tribe that owns and operates the Seneca Allegany Casino three miles from the hotel. You can learn more about the tribe’s history and culture at the Seneca Iroquois National Museum, which houses a partially reconstructed longhouse, colorful beadwork, and carvings. The Salamanca Antiques Mall on Main Street showcases a fascinating collection of wares—more than 1,000 vendors gather here to sell one-of-a-kind glassware, rocking chairs, and vintage books.

No trip to this area is complete without a visit to Allegany State Park, the largest park in the state. Covering more than 65,000 acres, it’s home to forested trails, fishing lakes, and historic buildings such as the Tudor-style Red House. You can see bears and white-tailed deer near the beaver ponds located directly south of here.
