Days 1–4: Bangkok, Thailand

You’ll depart on your tour on day 1 before arriving in Bangkok on day 2. Thailand’s capital city is home to a dazzling assortment of temples and statues, including the Emerald Buddha. Carved from a single block of jade, this figure is one of Thailand’s most sacred treasures—and just one of the many marvels you could see during your trip.

  • The Marble Temple: Wat Benchamabophit is a stunning example of early 20th-century architecture, sporting white marble, gold accents, and a stunning red roof.
  • Wat Pho: This Buddhist temple is home to the largest reclining Buddha as well as a famous massage school.
  • Try authentic pad thai in street-stall woks and includes a helping of dried shrimp and slices of firm tofu.

Days 5–7: Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong has more skyscrapers than any metropolis on earth. Take a tram ride up to Victoria Peak—a nearby mountaintop outside the city—and you can get spectacular views of the skyline. While growth has been rapid as of late, Hong Kong hasn’t lost touch with its roots, either. At the popular Stanley Market, a traditional open-air street marketplace, you can buy Chinese silks, jewelry, and other souvenirs. Nearly 60,000 Chinese citizens live on sampans, or houseboats, in the harbor around Aberdeen Floating Village.

  • Nan Lian Garden: Designed in the style of the Tang Dynasty, this garden’s ponds and pagodas are a tranquil oasis in the bustling city.
  • On your free day: take a trip to Lantau Island, the largest island in Hong Kong, where you can see the Po Lin Monastery and numerous national parks.
  • Chungking Mansions: Some of the cheapest housing and accommodations in Hong Kong, this massive structure is home to shops and eateries as well as some 4,000 residents.

Days 8–10: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Over the past decade or so, the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has undergone an unprecedented transformation that has turned it into one of the world’s most extravagant places. Its skyline is studded with fantastical structures that include a hotel shaped like a billowing sail, an interior “city” styled after ancient Egypt, and Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. But you can still catch glimpses of the old Dubai sprinkled amid the sprawl, in sacred mosques and bustling open-air marketplaces called souks. On the morning of day 10, you’ll depart for home.

  • Jumeirah Mosque: The only mosque in the city open to non-Muslims; it’s also one of the most beautiful, with huge white-stone columns and vaulted ceilings.
  • All that glitters at the world-famous Gold Souk really is gold. Gold is the primary product sold at this large jewelry market. If you want any, don’t be afraid to haggle.
  • Al Fahidi Historic District: Stroll through one of Dubai’s oldest heritage sites, making sure to stop at Dubai Museum inside the old Al-Fahidi Fort.
