• Pak Khlong Talat: a marketplace where baskets overflow with rare orchids, lotuses, and fragrant marigolds, which are considered lucky charms in Thailand.
• Visit floating markets where vendors sell colorful produce and prepared foods from boxy canoes that bob in canals.
• Golden Buddha: a towering, 5-ton solid-gold statue that was hidden beneath a coat of plaster until the mid-1950s; now at Wat Traimit temple, it’s estimated to be some 800 years old.
• Reclining Buddha: This 150-foot-long figure encrusted with gold leaf and mother-of-pearl represents the Buddha ascending to nirvana; see it at Wat Pho temple.
• Merlion: Singapore’s legendary 6-foot fountain bears the body of a scaled fish and the head of a lion that spouts streams of water.
• Gardens by the Bay: Climb inside an indoor waterfall that pours over tropical foliage and wander through a flower dome filled with rare orchids.
