Two Nights in Heredia You’ll head to Heredia, just outside of Costa Rica’s capital city, San Jose. There, you’ll find colorful street markets, mist-veiled volcanoes, and fragrant coffee plantations. You’ll get to tour a working coffee farm at Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation & Inn. Staff members demonstrate how the 30-acre estate’s organic beans are grown and harvested, and you may get to sample some of the java for yourself.
Set against a backdrop of volcanic peaks and mangrove forests, the vibrant plazas of downtown San Jose are filled with juggling street performers, musicians, and vendors. Among the city’s museums, the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum stands out. It boasts a stunning collection of artifacts, including jewelry, chest plates, and animal sculptures.
Four Nights in Nicoya Peninsula
The town of Tambor sits on Costa Rica’s famed Nicoya Peninsula, along a horseshoe-shaped bay girded by high, rocky bluffs. The rocks naturally shelter the bay, keeping the waters placid and swimmable. Fishing is a popular pursuit here, along with snorkeling and hiking along the Rio Panica. Tambor is also located close to the popular surf towns of Montezuma, Mal Pais, and Santa Teresa.
While you’re in Tambor, you’ll be staying at the Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort, which is steps from the Pacific Ocean. The 150-acre property features a nine-hole golf course and a spring-fed swimming pool. This deal comes with a horseback riding tour of the surrounding landscape, which includes two private beaches with golden sand—a result of volcanic activity in the region.
The nearby Curu Wildlife Reserve is home to spider monkeys, iguanas, scarlet macaws, and other creatures. Beachside, you can sometimes see olive ridley sea turtles laying eggs.
