I probably will be traveling solo. Will take the transfer option - just wanted clarification - airport pickup?, transfer between hotels? return to airport? Is there any transportation that I need to arrange myself?

Bonnie B.  from  Groupon  replied on  Jul 8, 2013

A:

you can purchase a package with air from Ft. Lauderdale, New York, LA, Chicago or Washington-Dulles. We can add on any city and you can call us for the supplemental pricing at 1-800-603-3178 if you can't use one of those gateways.

Q:

What is the difference between doing the rental car option and the transfer option and why is it more expensive to do the transfer option?

Byanka A.  asked on  Jul 2, 2013

A:

So, I am correct to say that we will be taken from each point and hotel to the next one?

Howard R.  from  Groupon  replied on  Jul 10, 2013

A:

The Car Rental Option is great but you need to pay for gas and insurance. The insurance is about $25 - $35 per day. Transfers is having a driver pick up and drop off with no extra cost. If you are comfortable driving it is great to have a car to explore!

Q:

Can my travel partner and I leave from two separate cities? Or do you need to by 2 groupons from one city?

Tonya C.  asked on  Jul 16, 2013

A:

You can leave from different cities, however, you will need to redeem together so we can ensure your flight times line up. You may also need to have flexibility on dates in order to line flight times up correctly.

Q:

Im having a hard time understand the traveling by car business. First, we fly into San Jose, then we drive around touring and then drive back to San Jose? How long will it take to get back to the airport? And how much does chauffeuring cost?

rivky b.  asked on  Jul 16, 2013

A:

You will fly into San Jose, pick up a rental car, drive yourself to the three different hotels and have the car at your disposal for the duration of your stay. The drive times are approximate, but its around 3 hrs to Arenal, 3.5 hrs from Arenal to the Guanacaste hotel, 3.5 hrs from the Guanacaste hotel to San Jose and about 25 -40 min to the rental office adjacent to the San Jose airport. If you don't want to drive, we have the option to take transfers for around $200 per person more depending on city.

Q:

How do I get back to the airport that I flew in too? Do I have to drive all the way back?

rivky b.  asked on  Jul 16, 2013

A:

If you take the car rental package, you drive back to the rental office from your San Jose hotel (last night hotel) and the rental company will shuttle you to the airport. If you select the transfer package, you will be transferred back to the airport.

Q:

Several questions: 1) It's difficult for me to get off from work, esp over 1 week, how can I make sure there are dates available for when I can have off? I'm looking at mid sept. 2) My car insurandce co states they will cover insurance for rented vehicles and I shouldn't waste my money buying insurance for rental vehiles, are you able to rent car w/o purchasing insurance if I have proof that my insurance will cover it? 3) How easy is the directions/travel from one location to another. Is it clearly marked to find your way? 4) Is the mounteverde clouds park near the hotel by the volcanco? how long distance and time to get there? Is there an excursion to see it, if so how much? If you rent a car do you have it the whole time? 5) If we go with another couple, can we both get upgraded to an larger vehicle w/o extra charge, maybe less, since two people won't be using transfers or renting? Can this be done if we by first & then the other couple signs on later?

P Michelle C.  asked on  Jul 13, 2013

A:

Hi PM, You can call us to verify availability for your specific dates prior to purchase at 1-800-603-3178. With regard to the insurance, you need to verify that it will cover the mandatory insurance requirement for Costa Rica (most US car/credit card insurance excludes Costa Rica), and you will need to get something in writing from the provider proving coverage to the rental agency. The drives themselves are pretty easy, with roads in good condition and plenty of cool things to see along the way. Costa Rica however, does not mark their roads well and while there is signage directing you to specific and popular tourist areas, we do recommend using a GPS while driving in the destination. The Monteverde region looks much closer on the map but due to road conditions and the route you take, it is either 4 hrs driving each way ort 2.5-3 hrs doing the lake crossing. We do have day excursions to Monteverde available, but they have a 4 passenger minimum on them and can be on the pricey side due to the transportation costs. You can call us for that information and pricing as well. However, you can also visit the Los Angeles cloud forest and other cloud forest areas in the Central Valley which are only about 1.5 hrs-2 hrs from Arenal. The rental rate is included for the duration of the package. If you choose to travel with another couple, you can upgrade the car to a larger vehicle and share the driving, and you can do that at any point in time prior to your departure (we do need about 48 hrs notice to confirm everything out)

Q:

Are any or all of the flights from NYC non-stop?

Robert N.  asked on  Jul 14, 2013

A:

Some of the flights are non-stop from NY we can also change the itinerary a little to go into Liberia instead from JFK. If you want only non-stops I would suggest you call our agency to make sure they are available for your desired departure date. 1-800-603-3178

Q:

QUESTION Im very interested in this deal, however, before making a purchase and subsequent plane reservation, i would like an answer posted here. Im planning to travel w my GF in August, however i was told the 899 charge (from NY) per person is subject to change "as prices for flights change". However, it is clearly noted that this is a "travel with airfare" package. Why should we the consumers have to pay more for the airfare when we have already purchased a DEAL (emphasis added) for 899 that INCLUDES airfare?! I was told this over the phone from the merchant, but i find it odd that nowhere on this listing is this mentioned. i understand that we would have to pay for gas+insurance if we would like to travel via rent-a-car as an added commodity, but the possible increase in airfare AFTER purchasing the groupon deal is disingenuous. please clarify this, and no, i do not want to simply call the merchant. i want every one here to have a fair deal.

Danny D.  asked on  Jul 13, 2013

A:

We are trying very hard to make it clear to everyone as many people do not seem to understand. This deal is available on select dates. It is NOT available every day. We DO guarantee the price you paid will be available for the month you picked and a few dates but not every day. You must be flexible to get the groupon rate as it is very discounted and we sell out of our block air as people purchase. So if you are not flexible in the month you pick you should call first before you purchase to make sure your dates is available. So Again you never have to pay more than the groupon rate for the month you pick but you need to be flexible on the dates you can travel. I hope this clears it up.

Q:

I have a few questions. 1) What is the cost of transfers per person if we choose not to do a rental car? 2) I've heard roads are bad in C.R. -- are the rental vehicles SUV's or standard compacts? 3) when is rainy season; 4) what is there to do on the Pacific side -- can we scuba/snorkel there or is it more beach relaxation only?

Cindi S.  asked on  Jul 12, 2013

A:

You can purchase the transfer option as opposed to the rental car. Most cities are around $200 more per person on that. The included vehicle is an economy automatic sedan, but we have SUV's available (although they're not necessary for the routes you are driving). The roads for the areas included on the package are in good condition, however, there are some roads in Costa Rica that are no so great, and if you were to visit areas, like Monteverde or drive yourself to more outlying, less developed areas, the road quality might not be the same. Green Season is May-Nov, and you would typically experience tropical weather usually with afternoon showers, that can get heavy at time. However, due to the unique microclimates, the weather in Arenal is actually fairly clear in Sept/Oct due to it being on the other side of the continental divide from the Pacific coast. Finally, there are a lot of different activites you can do from Guanacaste, including zip lines, horseback riding, surfing, safari cruises in Palo Verde, adventure activities near Rincon de la Vieja volcano. There is also snorkeling, diving and great deep sea fishing available.
