Four-Star Texas Resort with Championship Golf Course and Water Park
La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa caters to guests of all ages. Among the wealth of family-friendly activities and amenities, there’s an onsite water park with five pools, an in-water playground, and a lazy river. When the weather’s nice, you can play a round on the resort’s 18-hole golf course and kids can play mini golf. And it would be a mistake to not mention La Torretta’s spa, which features hamams, or traditional steam rooms that can help flush toxins out of the body. Select options include a $20 credit toward a 50-minute massage (valid Sunday–Thursday).
After a long day out, you can refuel at one of La Torretta’s diverse dining spots. Restaurant 157 offers contemporary American cuisine with open lake views. Lakeside Restaurant & Bar offers a quiet setting and views of Lake Conroe. Yoi Sushi Bar has fresh fish along with a variety of sakes and specialty cocktails. You can snack on comfort food poolside at CoCo Cove Grill. Each evening, the party moves to Sonata Piano Bar, where bartenders mix martinis.
The 18th hole of La Torretta’s championship golf course begins with a blind tee shot. Players have to shoot over an imposing hill, aiming to land within the narrow confines of a pine-tree-lined fairway. The approach shot is even tougher: the hole’s elevated green is protected by a large bunker and an expansive lake. You can look out to the golf course from one- or two-bedroom cottages, which have hardwood floors and flat-screen TVs.
Montgomery, Texas: Lakefront Community an Hour North of Houston
In Montgomery, Texas, the 21,000-acre Lake Conroe extends into Huntsville State Park, which connects with Sam Houston National Forest. For a rugged day trip, enter the forest and hop on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, a 128-mile stretch winding through the forest. Keep an eye out for deer, ducks, and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. The rare bird’s distinctive, squeaky call can be heard from a considerable distance.
