Top Reasons to Stay at the Long Barn Lodge

  • Located amid Stanislaus National Forest in the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Long Barn Lodge offers plenty of recreational activities, from swimming in the outdoor pool to volleyball and horseshoes.
  • The lodge dates back to 1925, when rancher Warren Beal built the structure as a boarding house for travelers heading over the Sonora Pass.
  • Two-queen guest rooms are housed in the lodge’s main building. Freestanding studio cabins are each equipped with a full kitchen and have enough space for a family of four.
  • For dinner, you can venture out to a restaurant in town or borrow one of the lodge’s barbecues to grill your own meal.
  • Yosemite National Park is less than two hours away. There, you can hike amid waterfalls, go horseback riding, or walk past the cliffs at Yosemite Valley.

Long Barn, California: Fishing, Swimming, and Biking in the Sierra Nevada

The small town of Long Barn, California is located within the Stanislaus National Forest in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The area is rife with outdoor activity no matter the season, but it’s particularly vibrant during the summer months. At nearby Pinecrest Lake, you can fish, hike, swim, and go boating before catching an after-dark flick at the Pinecrest Amphitheater. With hundreds of miles of dirt trails and four mountain passes, Long Barn is also a popular destination for on- and off-road motorcycle riding.

There are two recommended day trips within a two-hour drive of Long Barn. Two hours east is Bodie, one of California’s most famous ghost towns. Once a gold rush-era boomtown with more than 65 saloons, Bodie was deserted in the early 20th century. Today, it’s a State Historic Park with 100 well-preserved structures.

Less than 90 miles south of Long Barn lies the entrance to Yosemite National Park, which welcomes millions of visitors each year. Yosemite Falls—a three-tiered waterfall that’s considered North America’s highest—transforms into thundering cataracts each spring. Serious hikers can trek to the top on the strenuous Upper Yosemite Falls trail, which gains 2,700 feet in elevation in just 3.5 miles.
