Top Reasons to Stay at the Long Barn Lodge

  • Located amid Stanislaus National Forest in the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Long Barn Lodge offers plenty of recreational activities, including an indoor ice-skating rink that's been operating for more than 40 years.
  • You can ski or snowboard at Dodge Ridge Ski Area or go snow tubing at Leland Snowplay––both are just a 25-minute drive from the lodge.
  • The building dates back to 1925, when rancher Warren Beal built it as a boarding house for travelers heading over the Sonora Pass.
  • Two-queen guest rooms are housed in the lodge’s main building. Freestanding studio cabins are each equipped with a full kitchen and have enough space for a family of four.
  • For dinner, you can venture out to a restaurant in town or borrow one of the lodge’s barbecues to grill your own meal.

Long Barn, California: Outdoor Fun in the Sierra Nevada

The small town of Long Barn, California is located within the Stanislaus National Forest in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The forest's trails welcome snowmobilers and skiers in the winter months, and there are two recommended day trips within a two-hour drive.

About a 35-minute drive away is Columbia, a gold-rush-era ghost town that's now a living-history spectacle. Columbia is full of activities you won't find in most small towns: you can pan for gold, take a ride in a stagecoach, see a blacksmith at work, or make your own candles. When it's time to recharge, grab a beer or locally made sarsaparilla at a 150-year-old saloon.

Less than 90 miles south of Long Barn lies the entrance to Yosemite National Park, which welcomes millions of visitors each year. Yosemite Falls—a three-tiered waterfall that’s considered North America’s highest—transforms into thundering cataracts each spring. Serious hikers can trek to the top on the strenuous Upper Yosemite Falls trail, which gains 2,700 feet in elevation in just 3.5 miles.
