Hotel at a Glance: Lord Camden Inn

Lord Camden Inn blends in seamlessly with the elegant 19th-century buildings in Camden’s downtown. The four-story inn’s redbrick exterior and whitewashed terraces are framed beautifully against the steel-blue waters of Penobscot Bay. Exposed-brick walls and wainscoting in guest rooms and common areas add a touch of historical character. Many guest rooms have private balconies with views of the bay, though the best views are from the fourth-floor full-harbor-view rooms.

  • Continental breakfast: Farm fresh egg dishes, bacon or sausage, Belgian waffles with Maine maple syrup, homemade granola, bagels, assorted pastries.
  • Warm up by the fire: Some guest rooms have gas fireplaces.
  • Sweet treats: Homemade cookies and Keurig coffee are available in the lobby.
  • Oil paintings by Marianne W. Smith adorn the walls inside Lord Camden Inn. See even more of the artist’s work at her onsite gallery.
  • Exclusive discounts: This Getaway includes a $25 dining credit to one of Camden’s restaurants and a $25 shopping credit off of a $50-or-more purchase at Maine Sport Outfitters.
  • Accolades: Lord Camden Inn received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2014, a Three-Diamond rating from AAA, and Fido’s Favorite Award for their pet-friendly property.

Camden, Maine: Seaside Village Surrounded by Ski Mountains

The village of Camden, can be found where Camden Hills State Park’s mountains meet the North Atlantic Ocean—a classic New England landscape. Historical brick and whitewashed buildings dot the coastline and waterfront downtown. One, the circa-1835 Curtis Island Lighthouse, greets visitors from an island in the middle of the harbor.

Camden rewards those who brave the winter weather with a powdery landscape on its stretch of Appalachian Mountains. At the Camden Snow Bowl, intermittent snow through March covers the skiing and snowboarding trails on the 1,300-foot Ragged Mountain. The ski area’s toboggan shoots host the annual US National Toboggan Championships, where costumed sledders race down the mountain.

The cold weather doesn’t stop local fishermen from scouring the sea to supply local restaurants with fresh lobster and shrimp. And while you’re here, make sure to try both the state’s official dessert—blueberry pie made with wild Maine blueberries—and the state’s official treat, whoopie pie.
