Restored Historical Hotel on the Hudson River
When the Hudson River Railroad opened in the mid-19th century, men used to stable their horses and stay the night at a neat, clapboard rooming house along the scenic waterscape. Over time, that structure morphed into a raucous music hall, but then closed and had been worn down. After being purchased a few years ago, the new owners went great lengths to see that The Rhinecliff would be painstakingly restored to its original glory: refinished vintage doors open up to elegant spaces lined with antique hardwood floors and old stone fireplaces stacked by hand. Today, the hotel—which is listed in National Register of Historic Places—balances its charming rusticity with luxurious modern touches.
In each premier room, a private balcony looks to the Hudson River and its verdant surroundings. Downstairs in The Bar, The Rhinecliff's in-house restaurant, chefs whip up a complimentary breakfast, and in the afternoons, local jazz musicians add to the low-key vibe. In the evening, Executive Chef Brian Kaywork utilizes locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to concoct European-influenced fare. During nice weather or particularly bright solar flares, guests can dine on the bluestone outdoor patio and clink glasses with drinks from a lengthy wine list or an eclectic assortment of domestic and international beers and liquors.
Hudson River Valley, New York: Natural Beauty Surrounding Quaint Towns
The Rhinecliff resides in the scenic Hudson River Valley, a hilly and scenic region with charming towns. About 15 minutes away by car is Poets' Walk Park in Red Hook, which offers almost 2 miles of forested trails—some of which look out to panoramic views of the valley. There's a wide appreciation for local, farm-fresh produce in the area; one can pluck flavorful fruits and veggies straight from the farmers at local markets or sample the fare in the area's restaurants, markets, and wineries—all just a quick drive from The Rhinecliff.
Treasure troves of antiques are on display at a cluster of charming shops and marketplaces in neighboring Rhinebeck. And in the diverse roster of museums, visitors can learn about the hamlet's long history through artistic and cultural exhibits or musical re-enactments performed by security guards.
