This exotic setting provides the backdrop for this stylish, chic resort, which won a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2014.
- Detoxify with a 30-minute massage with your choice of aromatherapy or seaweed (included for one guest with the 4-, 5-, 6-, or 7-night stay)
- Machetes slash their way through dense foliage on guided hikes that highlight the medicinal uses of the jungle’s flora and fauna. Jungle excursions include cave tubing, zip lining, and horseback riding.
- Don’t go chasing waterfalls unless you follow one into the waterfall-fed pool, which is open 24/7.
- 17 types of rum infused onsite populate Maruba’s night spot, Glow Bar.

Maskall, Belize: Rural Village near Ancient Ruins
Though it’s tucked away in a rural corner of the Belize rainforest, Maskall lies only a few miles from one of the country’s most famous attractions: Altun Ha. The archaeological site once served as a major Mayan trading center and may also have been a religious center. Today, its stepped pyramids appear on Belizean banknotes as well as the label of Belikin beer, a local brew.
There are a handful of less-trafficked ruins within easy reach of the village as well. Cuello, one of the oldest known Mayan ruins, and Lamanai, which was once a flourishing Mayan city set along a wide lagoon, are nearby. It’s also worth it to visit the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary or Baboon Sanctuary, which harbors Central American river turtles—“hickatees” to locals—black howler monkeys, and a large population of jabiru storks on more than 16,000 acres of secluded lagoons, logwood swamps, and forests.
