Sandusky, Ohio: Family-Friendly Town with Amusement Parks Along Lake Erie
Sandusky is perched on the shores of Lake Erie, about midway between Cleveland and Toledo. It's a family-friendly destination with a slew of theme parks and scenic coastal islands. Cedar Point, one of the oldest amusement parks in the U.S., is a must-do for thrill seekers. The Millennium Force coaster set records as the tallest and fastest in the world when it was introduced in 2000. The park's newest attraction, GateKeeper, scooped up seven world records when it opened in May 2013, including the "longest drop on a wing coaster."
Head out to South Bass Island, off the coast of Lake Erie, to learn about the area's naval history. During the War of 1812, naval commander Oliver Hazard Perry sailed from Put-in-Bay to attack a fleet of British ships during the Battle of Lake Erie. Today, Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial commemorates the event with a 350-foot Doric column overlooking the lake. While you're in the area, you can also go hiking along white bluffs in the 33-acre South Bass Island State Park.

They were doing remodeling when we visited last summer so it wasn't 100% open, but the kids were happy to play in the water all day. Service was really good... we called a few times before arrival with questions. Would return!
