I loved how quaint and homey the Inn was. Beautiful views of the water and landscapes naturally bring the sense of peace and relaxation. Multiple fire pits on premises and fire place indoors invite you in to have a seat and hang out, playing board games with friends and family. You feel like you’re staying with friends. It was a refreshing and welcomed experience and we will absolutely return.

Historical Inn Secluded on Quiet Maine Coast

When taking in the picturesque, 19-acre oceanfront property that makes up the Newagen Seaside Inn, it's hard to imagine it rose from the ashes of a mysterious fire that burned down the original inn in 1943. Now—after a reconstruction in colonial revival style and 21st-century renovations—the inn sports a host of modern amenities and maintains the historical charm that once welcomed the likes of Frank Sinatra to the beautiful coast of Maine. Pine trees cloak the exterior, imbuing the grounds with the mystique of seclusion and a calm punctuated only by the sound of crashing waves.

A member of Historic Hotels of America, Newagen Seaside Inn eschews noisy crowds in favor of privacy and repose, housing only a few rooms. In a Deluxe room, hardwood floors glisten under natural light as refreshing ocean breezes flow in from the private porch, fluttering the Amish-style quilts on the king- or queen-size bed. With three sides of Newagen fronting the Atlantic, each of the deluxe rooms overlooks the ocean, inviting visitors to step outside and behold turquoise hues, expansive lawns, and crisp sunrises and sunsets.

Every morning, a continental breakfast buffet tempts guests out of bed with the aromas of locally roasted Carrabassett coffee and fresh pastries. A dip in the freshwater pool or hot tub makes a relaxing start to an afternoon spent reading under the sun, and tennis courts and miles of walking trails beckon travelers to wander or play paparazzi to local sasquatches. Meanwhile, in the inn's vintage game room, lodgers can gun for the 8 ball on the billiards table or sling strikes on two candlepin bowling lanes.

Newagen, Maine: Historical New England Community Near Quaint Fishing Village

Poised on the tip of Cape Newagen, recreation begins at Newagen Seaside Inn, where rowboats coast along the edge of the sea and classic cruiser bikes traverse trails through a fragrant spruce forest. Every week, a bonfire pit comes to life with cozy flames encircled by folk singers and storytellers regaling visitors eager to listen. Those looking to explore beyond the inn need look no further than Boothbay Harbor—an adventure-filled coastal fishing village about 7 miles from the hotel.

Whether visiting a historical lighthouse or whale watching, exploring Boothbay Harbor unveils a wealth of activities that tap into the spirit of Midcoast Maine. In lieu of mackerel or deep-sea fishing, those favoring landlocked sports can hit the local country club to send golf balls sailing against the wind. Downtown Boothbay buzzes with the sights and sounds of a variety of shops and galleries, as well as restaurants known for seafood as well as Italian, Thai, and Caribbean cuisines. A visit to nearby Popham Beach unveils kayaks racing past the shoreline and a massive stretch of pristine sand that leaves plenty of room for lying out, even on a crowded day.

Back at the Newagen Seaside Inn's dining room, a rotating menu showcases fresh fare plucked from local farms and the sea. Visitors get treated to one four-course meal for two; each person can choose a starter, a soup or salad, an entree, and a dessert. Options from the current summer menu include a lobster bake for one, which brings a local staple center stage alongside a cast of clams, potatoes, and grilled corn on the cob, and a filet mignon made with organically raised Pineland Farms beef.
