• Flight time: 16 hours

Days 2–5: Hanoi

In Hanoi, the ancient mingles with the ultramodern—ritzy nightclubs and wine bars often share the lane with thousand-year-old squares where locals practice tai chi. Get to know the capital city on a half-day tour that visits the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and an early Confucian university called the Temple of Literature. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore the city on your own from your hotel in the downtown Hoan Kiem District.

 • Within walking distance: The lakefront Ngoc Son Temple—the name means “Temple of the Jade Mountain”—dates back to the 14th century, though most structures have since been rebuilt.
 • Optional tours: Full-day excursion to the ancient village of Duong Lam ($110 per person; includes lunch) and half-day excursion to Bat Trang, a village famous for its ceramics ($110 per person)

Days 6–9: Ho Chi Minh City

You’ll find a frenzy of activity in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), from the bustling, skyscraper-lined downtown to modern shopping centers and restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world. A half-day city tour provides a nice introduction to this busy metropolis, with stops at the Neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral, Chinatown, and the lively Bihn Tay Market, where you can pick up wholesale produce, cloth, and other goods. Spend the remainder of your time checking out Ho Chi Minh City at your leisure from your hotel in one of the city’s busiest districts.

 • Within walking distance: Reunification Palace, the seat of the South Vietnamese government until it fell on April 30, 1975
 • Optional tours: Full-day river cruise along the Mekong Delta ($200 per person; includes lunch) and a half-day tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels dug by Viet Cong guerrillas during the war ($75 per person)

 • Optional 3-day extension: Fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap to visit the ruins of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, perhaps the most extensive temple ruins in Asia. Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. Transfer to the airport for China Airlines flight to return to Los Angeles. $699 per person, including air. $249 per person single supplement.

Day 10: En route to Los Angeles

Price was unbeatable, customer service was quick, friendly and efficient. We got our paperwork very timely and all the other information we needed. The hotels we stayed at were actually very nice! Canggu is much better than Seminyak, the food is amazing and the shops are super cute! Ubud was also really great! Our Balinese connection there, Macca Made, was phenomenal and set up optional tours for us while we were there at great rates. I'd definitely recommend - very easy and very much enjoyed!!
