    Days 1–7: Nadi, Fiji

Your overnight flight crosses the International Date Line before touching down in Nadi, one of Fiji's largest cities, where you'll spend the next five days.

Must-see attraction: The Garden of the Sleeping GIant—once the personal collection of Perry Mason actor Raymond Burr, this garden now teems with more than 2,000 rare orchids, including some types that are exclusive to Fiji.

Nadi town: Nadi's town's Main Street is lined with vendor stalls, where local farmers sell fresh kava root, coconut, and taro root. The restaurants downtown offer a mix of Indian, Chinese, and Fijian specialties.

Outdoor recreation: Travelers can soak in rays on the grey sands of Wailoaloa Beach, or travel just outside Nadi to Denarau Island for a change of pace. This resort area is known for its championship golf courses, massive shopping complex, and snorkeling trips that depart from Port Denarau.

    Days 8–11: Sydney, Australia; Departure

A brief flight takes you to Sydney, Australia's most famous city and the capital of New South Wales. Three nights in Sydney give you plenty of time to explore the city's cultural and geographical landmarks. Below are some of our favorite sites.

Must-see attraction: Head to Sydney Harbour for a postcard-worthy view of the city, with the arches of Sydney Opera House set against the backdrop of the Harbour Bridge, one of the world's longest steel arch bridges. It takes about an hour to cross the bridge and head back by foot, but the view from high atop the bridge's Pylon Lookout makes it well worth it.

Historical "Rocks" District: The Rocks has been dubbed "Sydney's Outdoor Museum" for its wealth of historical and cultural attractions. The neighborhood's Museum of Contemporary Art showcases quirky and modernistic works by such artists as Andy Warhol and Stephen Birch (an interactive exhibit from Yoko Ono arrives in November). The district is also home to a number of historical buildings, including the 1858 Sydney Observatory and the 1816 Cadmans Cottage, Sydney's oldest surviving residential home.

Exotic wildlife: Taronga Zoo houses some of Australia's exotic native wildlife, including Komodo dragons, platypuses, dingoes, and bilbies—small desert-dwelling marsupials. Guests can even get up close and pat a koala bear.
